Root A little help with upgrading 2.1 please

Hi all, I'm running on a captivate with 2.1 rooted update1 JF6 voodoo lagfix 3.0 applied, unlocked, on t-mobile. I am looking to go to CM7 for the advanced GPU upgrades found in 2.3. Exactly how would I go about this? I've downloaded so much stuff from several tutorials, and I'd like to know what I need. I have ROM Manager, I have successfully backed up my files, but I can't figure out ODIN console and Kies mini. I'd appreciate it if someone could help me out. Also, if there's a better, more stable way of getting on 2.3 please let me know

Thanks :)

EDIT: Is my phone still considered stock if I unroot and disable voodoo? The vid here should work for me if so http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978150

BEFORE I GO ANY FURTHER - Have you flashed any other ROMs to your phone EVER? If not, I would NOT go with CM7 just quite yet. There really is a lot to be said for "getting your feet wet" with some of the other 2.2 ROMs first - Yes, the CM7 process is completely different, but if you've not used ODIN or are not familiar with the basics, CM7 is definitely not something you should use to learn with.

You'll need to do a little bit more research, but here are some basics:

You will need to flash back to 100% stock.
You will need to ensure than your 3 button combos for booting into recovery work.
You will need to flash the SpeedMod kernel from ODIN which will give you access to CWM

You will need some files for the flash, SPECIFIC to your Captivate. You can find both information and the files you'll need here:

Definitely watch the YouTube video. Then watch is again, and again. Seriously - I had to watch it like 3-4 times before I was fully understanding what was going on EXACTLY.

It would appear that the risk of hard bricking the phone with CM7 is pretty low, but still, you definitely have to have a REALLY good understanding of what is going on before you even think about attempting it. My advise - If there is ANY part of the video tutorial that doesn't make sense, you are NOT ready for CM7 yet.
