I know this is the thunderchicken section but we seem to have the most knowledgeable people on here and more of a general android question. Than specific phone.

She just got a HTC merge (Verizon) and she was wondering when she's on the browser how can she still have the notification bar to show while on the browser. I looked in the settings and nada. Also the phone is not rooted and don't say to root the phone as she is happy stock.

With the browser up, if you hit menu>settings uncheck 'full screen'.

I don't have a stock phone to double check with, but start there and see if it that option is available.

Yeah told her she may have to use dolphin browser. I guess she will jabe to wait for gingerbread to change.it.

i wouldnt count on an upgrade for vzw phones, unfortunately :(

one neat thing about the merge,is that it was used by multiple carriers, and you can flash the different carriers firmware by either using a "gold card",or setting the carrier id to 111111(refered to as superCID)

there is a us cellular RUU you can run,if you want gingerbread. it will have usc boot animation and such, but should still work just fine on your vzw. id pretty strongly reccomend to do the root procedure before flashing it,however,in order to turn the secure flag off(make the radio s-off) and superCID the phone. this will also let you make a backup of the stock OS in case she doesnt like the gingerbread update. this is important,as there is not an RUU currently for your stock vzw firmware.

i know you said shes happy stock, but rooting is the best way to get a stock 2.3.4,and ensure youd be able to get back to stock froyo if you want. if youre interested,i can find you the link to the usc GB ruu,and help with any questsions you have about the root procedure :)

if you dont want to mess with that, another browser option would be miren, its got options to be full screen or show the status bar by touching an icon in the lower right corner. it also has arrows that you can go backwards or forwards, wich not many other browsers seem to have.
