Root A2SD+ and SD Card

I've started having random freezes/reboots since setting up A2SD+ on GV2.8. I think that the problem is with my 32GB SD being a class 2 card. I'm wondering if switching to a Lexar 32GB Class 10 may solve the issue? Anyone else had this problem and tried?

They should all be pretty much the same assuming its legit. Just buy from a reputable retailer.

Gotta admit I noticed no difference whenI went from a class 4 to a class 6 on an A2SD rom. Maybe 2 to 6 will have more of an impact though.

Thanks GrenW. I've run some tests on my existing card and it has a write speed of around 5mb so don't think i'll bother changing it for now. I have a feeling it's something to do with the rom/google navigation so i'll monitor it for a bit and may switch to oxygen.

I used to have the same problem, and I believe it was the SD-card acting up. Switching to Oxygen on the Alpharev Oxygene R2 Hboot table solved it for me.

In other forums people were talking about the quality of the card, recommending Kingston as The manufacturer to go to in order to solve this issue. I don't know about that, since I had not the money to buy another new SD-card that may or may not solve the issue. I am perfectly happy on Oxygen!

There is something aesthetically "wrong" with EXT3/4 partitions ;-) Putting stuff in different locations that really ought to be together just rubs me the wrong way, I guess :-)

Since you can't see the partition, its not aesthetic ;)

But yes, there is something wrong with havingto use partitions. I've not had one for ages

So the only aesthetic pleasure you can derive out of music is watching the notes transcribed ;-)

Take a look at this thread discussing read/write times from hacked Nooks: (link to follow in next post)

Their theory is that the higher sustained w/r speeds of class 6 & 10 cards is meaning less compared to the quicker small random r/w speeds of higher quality Sandisk cards even if they are class 2 or 4.

I would imagine that if they are right about the small random r/w speeds being more important, that this would also apply to using A2SD+ since it moves the dalvik cache to the SD card. What do you guys think? Sound logic or snake oil?

Their test samples are too small to take worth a grain of salt, but I tested my Sandisk Class 2 and its .4 MB/s write time is faster than all of the class 6 & 10 cards they've posted. So...I'm going to take the plunge and see how A2SD+ works on my phone.

@NorthernNoel, I'd love to know what speeds CrystalMark reports for your 32GB class 2 card that isn't working well. (5 iterations, 50MB, 4K QD32 scores)
