Root a2sd storage confusion

OK - this seems really strange.

I am running MIUI XJ (1.8.12) a2sd and am now getting messages that I am low on internal storage. In theory I have 849 MB free on a2sd but only 16MB free internally.

I have run the dark tremor script so I don't know what the problem is.

I have always done a complete wipe (including dalvik) and then downloaded terminal emulator, run the script which has always apparently been successful (including the re-boot) and the a2sd storage does seem to go down. But now it won't update some apps because it says there is insufficient room.

When I look at where the apps are (clicking on the low storage icon) it appears that only 3 or 4 apps are on the sd card (i haven't moved them) but i thought that dark tremor just tricks the phone so wasn't expecting them to appear on the sd card there....

Do i need to move them all to the sd card?

I have been playing with some themes this week and everytime I install a new theme it says low on space and so I just revert back to the default XJ theme.

SD card 13.9, Free 9.25
A2SD storage 0.98 Free 849
Internal Storage 148 Free 16.6
System storage 250 Free 129
System cache 40 free 38.86

The SD card came from Amazon so I don't think it can be a dodgy card.

Any ideas guys?

You have 13.9Gb on your SD card! What size is it? 16Gb? It looks like your phone isn't recognising the partition. The only I way know to cure that with DT is to reflash and make sure you don't run the rom unless you've flashed DT too.

Others will tell you to use better scripts.

It occurs to me that I have never actually flashed DT, as I assumed that MIUI came with the necessary bits. I just ran the script to make sure thatit sent it to the sd card.

Do i need to actually flash DT in addition to the ROM?

I'm not sure but I think Miui does it for you. You mentioned that you run the script? Check your ext3 first; if that's OK, try a fresh install without "running the script"!

You need to activate the apps2sd via terminal emulator - all the commands and procedure are in XJ's thread, 3rd post down on the 1st page...

su
a2sd zipalign
a2sd cachesd
a2sd reinstall

(phone will probably reboot between those commands, remember to type su before you enter each one)

Cheers Jayroller,

So to confirm - full wipe of everything, re flash ROM, then terminal emulator and run those scripts in that order? Is it right that the reinstall one is last? I assume it will reboot each time?

I had read that thread but as it was about Froyo and not GB assumed that it wasn't necessary.

I'd just try running them now, I'd already installed a few apps last time before running it and it seems to have moved them to the sd automatically. I don't think you'll need the -reinstall one, if all seems well after the first two then leave it out. I don't think it'll hurt if you do run it, but if it seems ok leave it, if you're not sure run it!

There's far too much info in the first few posts of that thread though, it took me a good 2 weeks to get the bottle up to even try the rom, as I couldn't work out what exactly to flash! it's all good now though, I have 25 apps installed (including a sat nav) and with the a2sd+ I've got 123mb free internal, with the standard hboot. ;)

Hey Jayroller

Just wanted to say thanks. All sorted now. Needed a a2sd reinstall which did the trick. Now enjoying the 101MB free internal storage goodness!

the miui a2sd+ doesn't activate after flashing (at least it didn't for me)
so you have to run the commands manually
and also if you are on a CM7 hboot you need to apply a fix for the market (doesn't allow you download programs more than 5mb i think , for example skype)

glad you have it sorted out

i am in confusion if i whould flashed the d2ext version

can someone explain what are the real benefits ?
i've read somewhere that with d2ext you get better performance/speed

so d2ext moves everything to the extended partition ? (application/cache +data) which means more internal memory than the a2sd

but a2sd moves the application (apk files ?) and dalvik cache right ?

Data2sd or data2ext does not give better performance. It gives better benchmarks by using cache readback as I/O. This is a side effect and is also fake.

I was one of the first to try data2sd and I used it for a long time. Real world performance is reduced imo
