Root a2sd... where do they go?

So I have never purposefully put any apps on the SD card, never partitioned, etc. etc. and when I was flashing a new ROM today went into Titanium and saw down at the bottom that I had:

Internal: 167 MB (79.2 MB free)
SD Card: 7.93 GB (3.37 GB free)
SD Card (a2sd): 178 MB (4.80 MB free)

So I am really curious what exactly is in the 173 or so MB of apparent apps on the SD card. Does anyone know how I could obtain said information? I looked really quickly in ES File explorer but couldn't find anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as well as any insight as to how anything is being installed in that space that is supposedly for a2sd. Thanks!

You need to first mention whether you are talking about a 2.1 ROM or a 2.2 ROM - that makes a huge difference.

It would be surprising for the value to be anything other than "0" if you are using a 2.1 ROM and you truly "never partitioned". There may have been ROMs that had "a2sd/apps2sd" enabled right out of the box, but I don't think ANY ROMs have ever automatically partitioned the SD card - because doing that would have destroyed everything on the SD card.

No matter what the situation is though, it is unlikely that a file manager will show you what is going on (unless Root Explorer visually allows you to detect a symbolic link). You will have to use the command line (either via adb or a terminal emulator with a root shell), and inspect things with the "mount" command and "ls -l" command.

For instance, the output of
Code:
adb shell mount
will show you where all the mount points are (and whether an "ext" partition is currently mounted),

and

the output of
Code:
adb shell ls -ld /data/*
will show you whether there are symbolic links at

/data/data
and
/data/dalvik-cache

and

the output of
Code:
adb shell ls -l /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
will tell you if there is a partition on your SD card. ("file not found" means NO.)

Post up the output of those three commands and we can tell you what the answer is, or give further instruction.

cheers

One of Titanium's recent changes fixed a problem that if it detected the directory /data/sd on your phone it would mistake it as the location of apps2sd. If you are not on the latest release and you are using a ROM that has that folder, it is possible it is mistaking that for apps2sd.

I was running xtrSENSE last week and I believe that TB was showing that on my phone as well, despite the fact that I had not partitioned my card nor set up apps2sd.

I wouldn't worry about it.
