A500 4.0 Update Today

Why do I have such a hard time finding update details for my iconia tab? I love this thing but at the same time it irritates me just like my girlfriend.

This morning I saw the prompt for acers 4.0 update on this thing so I did it. My swipe doesnt work now. I tried to google details about the update and found nothing. Igo to acer s website and also find nothing.

Why acer why?
 
Acer won't support Swype, you'll need to either re-license it (using the installer) or remove and reinstall it. I had to do the same when I got the 3.1 update.

Go to Settings > About Tablet to find out the version and build numbers of what you have installed on your Acer.

I just did, but what will it do for me.

Here are the numbers if for any reason you are interested.

Android 3.1

Kernel: 2.6.36.3

Build: 4.010.11

It tells you you are on the latest US build, which is the 4.010.11 number. Prior to the update you just did you were most probably on Android 3.1 Build 4.010.08.
 
Mmmmm, I am downloading the new 4.0xxxxx update, the old one was

Acer_A500_4.010.24_COM_GEN1 on mine.

New one is Acer_A500_4.01.40_COM_GEN1

So far so good.

I wonder what the differences are between the *.***.**_COM_GEN1 and *.***.**_COM_GEN2 are?

My build is 4.01-something or other with a GEN2.

Whichever it is ... I'm happy with mine.
 
I'm having problems getting this to load on my a500. It downloads the 386.70 mb package no problem but when it goes to install it I receive the error. "The system update is invalid and has been cancelled." Anyone else getting the same message, if so anyone find a word around?

I got the same message, it failed for me at least a half dozen update attempts, very frustrating.

I solved the problem by rooting, installing Clockwork recovery and then manually installing the update myself. XDA has the update available as a download on their Acer A500 forum.
 
I am in Canada, and just got a request to update from 4.010.22 to 4.010.38.
I am wondering if I should do it now or wait to see if other peoples are having problems with this update. I presently have android version 3.1 and never had problems, but I have seen other having conection problems since 3.1.

From what I was reading you'll be lucky if it even unpacks without fail..
 
I had no unpacking or install issue. Sorry for you guys. I do know how to check versions but not the specifics of the updates as I had hoped for.
 
Got my update while in class. Now on 4.010.10 It installed first time, no problem. I'm not rooted, running on stock. I didn't notice anything until checking on battery use. Looks like no more drain from phone. Hello more battery life!
 
I just got the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and I am thinking about switching to the the Acer. Has the update addressed any of the issues that have been popping up?

Well for me the patch to 3.01 sorted all my problems, the update to 3.1 for me has been fine, couple of improved features and overall much speedier, I can't think of anything to complain about.
