Help A853 Froyo (2.2.1) limit on SD installed applications ?

Ok, so I have a A853 (Brazil Retail), originally with 2.1 Eclair and updated to 2.2.1 (official Motorola), updated using the official Motorola software (not format or reinstall was required).

What I noticed is that if I have over a given number of applications on the SDCard, the system starts to get very slow. Looks like it is reinitializing the sdcard mounts everytime I exit an application (and the launcher takes a long time to load icons and become usable). This limit seems to be around 25 application. The size of the applications doesn't seem to have any influence on this.

My phone was rooted both as 2.1 and 2.2.1 using Universal Androot, and no custom kernel modules were installed. Only application that officially support "move to sd" are on the sd card (no app2sd magic).

Anyone have any clue of what is going on ?

Hummm, that makes sense, actually. I will try getting a class 6 or class 10 card Monday or Tuesday, and give it a go. Will report back here. Thank you.

I actually tried a few days ago to identify (using a couple tools from the Market) my card class, and it looked like a class 4 based on speed measurements, but I've got no definitive data.

Edit: I just removed the card, and it is a class 2. you were right. Time to buy a new one.

Thank you. I was checking prices, and the class 10 MicroSD were expensive enough that I gave up on the idea right away.

THe only Class 6 8GB card I've been able to find is one from Transcend (P/N: TSGUSDHC6). Any comments on that one ? The price doesn't look too bad (About US$ 60 with S&H included, which is about par for the Brazilian market).

That card should be ok.

The store that had the class 6 memory I mentioned is out of stock. So all I'm able to find right now are class 4 memories.

My question: how well would a class 4 work ? It is even worth it buying it ? Otherwise, I will keep looking for a class 6, and hope sometime I find one.

I use my SDCard mostly for applications (apk and data). Almost no MP3/Videos. So yeah, I mostly use it for stuff that is speed sensitive :(

You can always simply try the class 4 ones and see if they are better.

Just installed the class 4 card. Moved everything to SD, and it seems to be working great.

Now I'm planning a burning ritual of the old class 2 under a Motorola flag. Maybe with some kind of effigy or something.
