AAARRGH! Can't decide!!

currently I own the iPhone 3gs jailbroken with greenpo1son. I will be eligible for a phone upgrade in about a week, and I am definitely getting an android phone since Iphone has gotten too bland for me. I have narrowed my choices down to the Inspire and Atrix, however I am leaning towards the inspire, which is why I posted in this sub-forum. I absolutely love the sense ui as well as the build quality of the inspire, however I fear that coming from an iphone i will feel uncomfortable with the massive 4.3" screen. Also, the battery life isn't that good. I want to know how the battery life of the Inspire compares to that of the iphone 3gs, and which of the two, inspire or atrix, will best suit a high schooler who uses his phone from moderate to heavy use each day. I don't mind charging every night - thats wat i do with my 3gs. also, I won't be using the auto-sync function on android as I just sync when i launch the app (email, facebook, etc...) so i don't know if that factors into battery life or not.

Any input is greatly appreciated!

I love my Inspire. Just picked it up a few days ago. If you down load a background app killer the battery is not so bad. Also if price matters the Inspire is exceedingly less than the atrix. I walked into the store and got it for $75, not to mention my upgrade isn't due for another 2 weeks. If you try this call customer service first and tell them about how it's so much cheaper everywhere else yada, yada, yada, get them to quote you a good price, ask them to make notations in their system and tell them you'll call right back. Go to the nearest AT&T Store and ask them to match it. if they look up your acct. they'll see the price quoted and you may get it cheaper. It helps if you're a long time customer.

Of course like everyone else will say, try them both out. If you plan on getting a new phone in a year, go with the inspire. It has great build quality, is priced good for its specs, you will get good support from HTC. However if you wanna keep this phone for the life of a 2 year contract I'd have to say Atrix. It's specs are more future proof.

lol i might try that to get a good price :). What background app killer app do you happen to use?

DO NOT USE A TASK KILLER!!! Android 2.2 and above do not need them and do more harm than good. Search around the forums and you will learn that task killer is useless! Get Juice Defender and tweak that to your liking. Doesn't kill tasks unnecessarily but it will assist with auto turning off data and such when the phone is sleeping.

With Juice Defender and no task killer on moderate to heavy usage I get 13-15 hours out of a charge!

The battery is fine on the Inspire, the majority of users get a full day out of it, don't let the 1230mah battery fool you into thinking otherwise.
I have yet to have my phone die and it is on for 14 to 16 hrs a day receiving/updating email, texting, FB updates, weather updates, phone calls etc. most of that without a WiFi connection - I've only had my phone drop below 30% battery left 1 time.

same here, once you get the inspire and tweak it to your liking and get juice defender (i also use watchdog lite to let me know if certain apps go above a certain threshold then give me the option to kill it)

Switched from a 3Gs to Inspire a few weeks ago. 4.3" screen is awesome. Battery life is about equivalent to the 3Gs (but not as good as the iPhone 4). I'm not a super-heavy user, and my phone makes it back in the evening with about 50% charge (sometimes more).

Get Juice Defender and Lookout right off the bat and you should be good to go.

Buy the Inspire (I did last night, from Amazon) and be prepared to grab an extended battery to *solve* (not help) any battery related problems. I have an original HTC Droid Incredible with an AMOLED screen. Beautiful to look at but very power hungry. Picked up the Seidio 3500 Mah extended battery (comes with a free battery cover), and no more problems with battery power - NONE!

I've been looking at reviews of both the Atrix and the Inspire, and I am NOT that impressed with the Atrix. While the specs seem great, I've heard of a lot of issues with the colors on the screen, along with lagging apps, which is pretty sad with the killer processor it has. After reading COUNTLESS reviews, the inspire is what I am picking up in the next day or two.

I'm not seeing this available for the Inspire.

I do see an Innocell 1300mAh Slim Extended Life Battery $39.95 to gain 70mAh....

This seals the deal for me. I am more than happy with my current 3GS battery life so I guess the battery life won't be an issue. One question, when you say the battery life is equal, is that with autosync on and push notifications on and bluetooth etc...?

I came from the same phone, no regrets. You get used to the screen size fast, it's a beauty! The battery does kind of stink, but you'll be fine if you charge nightly. My husband got the atrix then returned it for the inspire and he loves it. We got ours at radio shack and actually made money. Got $350 for both iphones so we got 2 inspires, a case, 2 SD cards, a lego led light, and 2 cute skull portable speakers! Best purchase ever! I'm glued to the phone and having fun with it. You can always get an ipod touch if you miss your iPhone. :p

Good luck with your decision!!!!
