About LG G Stylo internal's storage

Hi

I just got a LG G Stylo from virgin mobile. I've been having some intermittent freezes. I am suspecting the low ram and/or the storage available.

The phone has an 8GB internal storage and 1GB of system ram.

I went into the settings and then to storage.

Apps is taking 1.8GB, Miscellaneous is taking 4.43GB and 1.9GB is free space. I clicked on the Miscellaneous and it shows system data is taking 4.43gb of the internel storage.

If you have a LG G Stylo from virgin mobile, do you have a similar result? Or is this a bug where the storage gives false information.

I appreciate any input. Thanks

In my google search it seems this is the norm these days, there are many phones where Miscellaneous files is eating almost all the internal storage especially the system data which can't be deleted.

And the majority of that bloatware is from the carriers ( Virgin, T-Mobile, Verizon, Boost, and etc ) and the smartphone vendors ( Samsung, LG and etc ). If they want to bloat our phone to death, give the end user at least 50% free space and not just 15% ~ 20%.

This sucks!

Hey @johndoepclos, I've moved your thread over here to the LG G Stylo area for you so the other LG G Stylo folks can weigh-in and give you some feedback.

Cheers and Happy New Year!

:)
DO YOU MODS EVER TAKE A BREAK!?!?!?!?
Just kidding, happy new years to all. And yes that seems about right, system data takes up a bunch of space especially for you people with the 8gb version.

I have the same phone. I use a paid prg called link2sd. It works a little different from other move to sd type prgs. I also use xinternalsd, which is an exposed module that places files from prgs that install in system, like large data files into sd card.
These programs work more with root, so if you don't want to experiment I suggest you wait for Android 6. 6 supposedly allows more direct usage of the sd card. Virgin is on the list for upgrades, just don't know yet when it's coming, everyone from every carrier is waiting.

P.S. If we EVER get the bootloader unlocked, we can safely clear out the bloat and get some ROMS that will use less storage, coming soon I hope!

My gf has the 16GB Metro (Tmobile) version, I just looked at hers
Misc - System Data 5.45GB

But not an issue, there is also a 32GB sd card in there

I think I have a malfunctioning phone. Freezes and the phone turning off when watching videos in full screen. I have to return it for something else.

I appreciate the input from all in here. Thanks

Speaking of storage..... I ordered a 32 memory card. Coming tomorrow. The micro SIM card was already placed in the phone. (AMAZON) Is that slot where the new memory card will fit? Remove the SIM card first? Thus far (since Sat.) I love this phone! My first smart phone was the LG Optimus which was disappointing. Thanks in advance, gang!

No it should go over/above it, a dual layer slot.

My note 3 had one of those slots, I hated the damn thing, pain in the ass to get stuff out of. haha

So I've dealt with them before.

The slot is TINY.... I'm freaking a little bit of trying to fit the memory card in. I'll endeavor to persevere. Again, thanks. I'll try not to bug you guys.... I've got the phone all set up on Virgin... just waiting for the memory card tomorrow. Happy New Year, man!

I have the boost version and got the marshmallow update on Wed. It seems really useless as I cannot use my SD card for internal storage like everything said it would. I am down to less than a gb of memory and have no photos or music to take up space. When I got the update I moved the apps over that I could but now its saying not enough storage on the SD card which is bull, I've got 29gb free. I'm not the only one that has had this issue, anyone have any suggestions?

Return it for T-Mobile Prepaid version, they have the same super cheap plans and even day-to-day plans...

But no really if you're rooted get SDMaid Pro and run it, don't I repeat don't use Clean Master it's useless trash that tries to get you to install more bull, if all else make some room and install CCleaner.

Then also if ya haven't done so move as much other stuff possible over to the extSDcard, Ringtones, DCIM etc

It's safe to say, the standard now is 16Gb Rom 2Gb Ram.

Otherwise you're bound to run into storage problems unless you're a very basic minimalistic user, even then you're still cutting it close.

Android/Google should give the same option Windows Mobile 6/6.1/6.5 gave and that was upon app installation to choose to install it to phone storage or sd storage, they just now kinda implemented this with MM but WM and Android very similar in a lot of ways.

Thanks for the advice, but returning it is not an option. Besides it being too late to return T-Mobile service in my area sucks. I have moved all I can to the SD card, what I'm asking has anyone else run into the bug w it saying the SD card is full but its not. I absolutely cannot root the phone I'm horrible with technology and will ruin the phone for sure.

We're not at root for Boost/Virgin/Sprint Stylo yet. There is definitely more than one issue with MM. All this will get ironed out. You are not the only person with this exact problem. I don't have your problem, but have you tried to move any of your optional programs to sd? It was tricky for me determining how to do this. You know, going into the app settings menu and choosing the optional apps only, then highlighting the storage line and either getting the option to move to sd, or nothing. I have Virgin Mobile and it has 1 gig ram and 8 gigs storage, I never had any problems on Lollypop with root using Link2sd, to move ALL my apps to sd,but we don't have root now, and supposedly Link2sd doesn't work with MM.
I think the best thing for you to do is to call Boost and lodge a complaint. If you do, please let us know what they say. I know for a fact this will get right. In the meantime I would just streamline the optional apps you need and keep checking back. I saw your post on the Facebook group, and between there and here and XDA there will be progress. There are a few heavy hitters that will help soon. They've gotten root before, and are on the case now. Root is not difficult, you just have to be EXACT with your syntax and actions, but numerous will do it first, you just have to wait til you see it being done and ask for help. Hang tight!

I am attempting to force my phone to emulate your problem (system says no more room to move apps to sd) and there is a whole empty sd. I'll let you know what happens.

Thanks so much jmacie! It is really maddening and I've had to delete a lot of apps that I wanted. And yes I have tried moving all the apps I could, but only half moved when I started getting the SD card is full. I have even disabled a bunch of the preloaded crap that comes on it.

I am going to try to go to an actual boost store tomorrow and try to complain and see what happens. Unfortunately there's only one store here in Frankfort and the staff seem pretty useless but I'm going to try. Hopefully it will get worked out soon. I'm not sure what you mean about going into the settings for optional settings and setting line. If you could message me on Facebook maybe I can better understand what you are talking about. I appreciate you trying to get my error.

O.K. Lisa, I've been at this all night, and I hit the dead end like you did. I am going to leave it in your hands to find out what you can, but I'm sending you this youtube link to take with you to show the Boost people what's supposed to happen and doesn't. In this video it show that when you go into storage and settings and format your SD you have the option to "format as internal storage" or plain "format" . We only have one format entry, and when we choose it, the page shows "Format as portable storage". That is NOT adaptive storage, we have a missing element.- Here you go! Good Luck!-https://youtu.be/M-FiTea2TcI

So I went to Boost today, the girl did everything she could think of and nothing worked, still got the error of not enough space. She looked on the internet and supposedly this phone only supports up to a 24gb sd card. I find that hard to believe but I cannot find out until I can purchase one on the 27th. I will go to Boost and get it there and have them put it in and if it does that same thing then I'm going to tell them to refund the card immediately. I hate to have to spend more money on an sd card but at this point don't know what else to do. If anyone has gotten an answer please let me know.

I've been on the phone since 11 am and am still on the phone. I started with 5 calls to Boost, 4 calls to Sprint, 2 calls to LG and now LG put me on Hold for 45 minutes with Google. I probably would not have this problem during the week, but the carriers are useless and LG says it's a limitation from the hardware and Google needs to deal with it, so I'll get back later. This is not a capacity of sd issue, this is missing element in format area. I may have to brick my phone and send it away to LG and get Lollypop. On Lollypop you could at lease use a 3rd party app to move optional programs to Sd. Those programs are blocked in Marshmallow because MM wants exclusivity to do the adaptive storage, but it is glitched so you can only use the sd as portable storage and the 3rd parties can't use the portable storage sd card format. This is getting deep, but I'm halfway through my Google wait, and hopefully they won't dump me like all the other customer services I spoken to today. Wish me Luck!
