hi i have a samsung prevail from boost i love the phone i have read post about rooting i would just like to get rid of apps i dont use that came with phone.if i root the phone will it still get all the boost updates and will it work all the same it works great just want more memory thanks for the help

I really don't think that you need to worry about the Prevail being updated anytime soon as far as Boost goes . All of the apps you install will still be updatable after rooting .

As for rooting , go for it ! You won't be sorry . There are apps on the Market that will allow you to move most of your apps to the sd card too . Some of the ROMS here in the Forum even have that feature included in them .

If you need to return your phone for warranty issues , there's even a fix for that called Odin . It will let you return your phone to stock .

If you are interested in a new ROM , I HIGHLY recommend either Hroarks CM7 or Bloodawns CTMod . CTMod 2.5 is very stable and user friendly , 3.0 is still in the beta stage (be aware of that) .
CM7 is a ROM for the person who enjoys a challenge . It has a lot of features that CTMod doesn't .
The Skater even has his own ROM out called "187MoD-HoneyBread4 + [Kernel] Genocide 2.6.35.14 For Non-CM7" that runs great .

You have a lot to choose from and they are all excellent ROMS .

Before doing anything , I ask you to please read the threads . There is a wealth of info in them .

Last but not least .... welcome to the Forum ! :D

so where did you guys learn the skills for all this stuff? is there some books i can read? what do you call your area of knowledge? linux programming?
device networking? im sure many are self taught, but im interested in learning more about this.

in the short term i learned from posting here previously i might get better reception and less dropped calls by rooting and changing my prl to a sprint one.
but i want to learn more before attempting to brick my phone. :D
