Root Absolution

For those of you familiar with this...I decided to give it a drive for a month. However I've hit a snag in that I've done something, somewhere causing the loss of function to my search button and my lock screen disappearing and not activating on screen off...any ideas?

That happened to me on first install, Fix Permissions sorted that. I presume you've done that already though.

Do you have Widgetlocker installed too? Is that active? If WL crashes for me or isn't running, my screen won't lock.

Yeah fixed permissions and wiped salvia and cache.

No WL installed either.

I've had a mess about and I can't see anything that would clear the default for the search button.

If you head to Settings -> Absolution Tools -> CyanogenMod Settings -> Lockscreen, is there nothing in there that helps?

Settings -> Absolution Tools -> CyanogenMod Settings -> Tablet Tweaks, is the lockscreen disabled there?

Make sure you are running the latest release v3.7, has some bug updates. Sorted a couple of UI issues I was having.

Nope nothing there...TBH I didn't like their attitude toward helping me figure this out in the XDA thread. I had to repeat myself because they seem inept at reading between the lines. Very aggresive attitude defending it against a non existent attack. Not the first devs to get that way even after the deserved praise I offer.

Will flop it on again I suppose. If things go t**s up again I've got LeeDrOiD back in the game with version 5 top drop on. (LeeDrOiD and Loyal I am lol)

I really like Absolution (3.6) apart from the occasional crazy ui vanity.

But I've not *updated* a ROM before. Yes, of course a nandroid backup, but do I need to factory reset before flashing 3.7?

Yeah, they do appear a tad stand offish.

I'm not sure with Absolution, I did the full wipe when I went from 3.1 -> 3.6, but i'm pretty sure you can just wipe the system and caches then install the ROM. I know with CM7, whenever I updated that, unless I was specifically told to, I just wiped the caches and that was it. Same with LeeDroid too (but his ROM included a wipe script iirc).

If you've a backup, there's no harm in doing it either way I suppose.

Tried that, all seems good but I got superuser saying "Velvet suit has been denied" three times.

And some random haiku.

Later: They are related. I suspect that there will be a new haiku each boot, and it needs root to switch it off. I was stabbing the off button and Android was busy booting so su took a while to respond.

Yeah, that seems right, except the Haiku appears to be the same, and the app is uninstalled when you click the "No more" button.

So far everything works fine.

Yes. I'd read somewhere that there might be "root issues" with that, but figured that was a different phone, and I was busy so thought "I'm backed up, what the hell..."

worth noting that it is still working fine today, so I'm guessing flashing over the top works (for 24 hours at least).

I have to say I was expecting the OTA to do something automatically, but it didn't.
