Left mine on the car roof and drove off. Saw it come off the back of the car when I hit 50mph. Landed in the road, fortunately nothing coming along. Reversed back up and retrieved it. Not a mark on it and works fine. It was in a gel case and had a screen protector on it, but even so I was amazed.

(Don't think I'll mention this if I ever list it on ebay though ;-) )

Placed my Desire on the table last Christmas, later knocked over a full pint of beer, and ALL of it landed on the phone. It was soaking wet. It didn't respond, so I turned it off. Wiped the worst of the beer off, and in my semi-drunken state immediately turned it on again. Expected the worst, but it went through some strange boot up sequence, with letters and numbers I had never seen before, and has been working perfectly ever since.

Dropped mine on a concrete patio. It left a big crack across the screen, but it was just the glass that broke - the underlying AMOLED screen was fine, and it still responded to touch. I think it cost like

Just some dents and scratches on the metal housing. Several hip height drops on concrete and tarmac

My Desire is in a immaculate condition. No marks or scratches on it but I cant say the say about my sister's Desire she dropped it in the soup TWICE in a space of few weeks! Once in a toilet bowl and the other time in a large cuppa tea! Both times I left it to dry for a few days and that did the trick!

Nothing major but mine was my girlfriends before we traded, and it flew out of her pocket while we were jogging in the dark on a gravel backroad and got some scratches on the screen. They aren't noticeable when the screen is on, and no other marks on the body. Now I keep it in a gel case in my pocket since i work in a garage doing oil changes and stuff on cars.

My friends got overheated on a beach in the south. Shut itself off. He overheated it again on the dash of his truck. So far so good. Only had it since like christmas though.

dropped it in a cup of tea, dried it with hairdryer. was amazed it booted straight away but had car icon at top for a week, very anoying every time someone called it went to loud speaker..

I left mine in trouser pocket and my wife scooped up the trousers and put them into the washing machine - yes without checking the pockets. It was about half way through the cycle ie hot soapy water when I noticed (and heard the thumping sound coming from the washing machine).

I took the HTC Desire apart down to all the major components, and put them on a dish towel in the fan oven in the kitchen on the very lowest setting with the door ajar. ie very slowly dried the phone and components in a warm fan oven.

After two hours of gentle drying, put everything back together, held my breath and it worked perfectly.

Having read other postings of submergance, the HTC Desire must be able to resist this reasonable well if caught quickly enough and very carefully dried out before switching back on.

Mine's also in an Otterbox case - but this has just as many holes to let water in as the phone of course...

AMAZING!!!

So far I think it's between cpim and togger - such different forms of abuse that it's hard to choose a winner.

It wasn't a competition!!! :D

I was just so impressed that mine survived totally unscathed I wondered if anyone else's had survived as well. Have to say the build quality does seem to be pretty good.

Abuse your phone? you nasty lot you.
You should treat it with respect like your mrs.
And give it a good rooting every so often..

Dropped onto the edge of the fireplace hearth from about 6 feet. Directly onto the screen on a corner of the fireplace. Resultant...torn screen protector and undamaged screen. Also dropped it running but no damage.

Only damage to my phone is some scuffing along the top surface where the CM Barely there case does not cover.
