Help accelerometer

mine pulls slightly to the left. not enough to make me exchange my phone but enough to annoy me and make me paranoid.

Any way to calibrate or fix?

Tried Hyperspace and didn't notice any significant problems using the default settings. But then my lack of skill could well have masked what you're seeing. I did notice that game includes a calibration option, but not sure that answers your question. Sorry, not a gamer...

Try Labyrinth, the free version demo. Its in the Market. It has a calibrate option where you can test/change it.

Post back results. That will be the best game to try this out on.

that only calibrates that specific game, not the entire phone. =/

Oh. Something is very wrong with your phone if you have to calibrate it after buying brand new... Can you go for an exchange?

well its not THAT bad. its a little bit but not enough to have to make me hold it at a drastic angle. nothing else is wrong with the pbone. gps is snappy, all buttons work, no dead pixels, so the accelerometer favors the lft a tiny tiny tiny bit more. oh well ill get over it.

I'm having the same issue, and my phone is only two days old, after exchanging it for the same issue. Download an app called Android Sensor Data. Open it and turn on the positional tab. Lay your phone on a level surface (check it against an actual level in both directions) and it'll tell you how off your device is.

The "Accelerometer" will always read "Z" very high, as gravity is pulling on the decive. "X" and "Y" should be very close to zero. Now look at the "Orientation" section. Azimuth reads compass direction. Pitch reads tipping the unit up or down, and Roll tells you about left or right. Both Pitch and Roll should be zero when the unit's screen is level. These units are in degrees. Currently, mine is reading 6 for Pitch and 1 for Roll (6 degrees is a huge error in my opinion).

Like I said, this is a replacement for a unit with the same errors (first one was off by 4 and 5 respectively). This isn't too much of an issue in Apps that have a calibrate option, however, it will mess with those that don't. Oddly enough, neither Google Street View in Compass mode nor Google Sky Map have a calibration function. There is no option to calibrate the phone like there is in the MyTouch 3G Slide.

I have spoken with T-Mobile tech support to no avail, their response was return it. I have emailed Samsung about this issue and am waiting for a reply. It should be an easy enough patch to unroll to us. When (if) I get a response, I will post it here.

Hope I'm not the bearer of bad news, but rest easy knowing you're not the only one experiencing it either.

Okay, I received a response from Samsung email tech support saying to call Customer service. He did say that he's sent my letter up the chain (I was addressing calendar issues and the notification LED as inclusions in future updates/phones).

So, I called and went through two people who didn't even know what the accelerometer and gyroscope were, or what they did. Finally after reaching tier three I got to someone who both spoke English and knew what I was talking about. Her short answer was that no, there is no way to calibrate the sensors for the phone directly. She also said that there currently isn't a fix slated to be released, as it's the first time she's heard of the issue (so it must not be that a big a deal, right?).

Here's the thing though...the Compass is dependent on the phone being held in a level state in order to give you accurate readings. Most people can spot level within a degree, and have no problem holding the device that way. So, if the phone isn't reading level, your compass will always be off (I'm usually off by five degrees or so either side of north even after calibrating the compass).

So, if you're reading this and you want to check your readings, download any number of sensor data apps (I've used a few, like Android Sensor Data) and check your readings, then let Samsung know whats up.

you guys need to notice this. The back of the phone is not even because of the design. The lower of the phone will be higher abit when you put the phone on the surface. So it causes the accelerometer offs a bit.

if you lay the phone down use the edge of table and dont let the hump be on the table
