Accessing My Universities WIFI on Android?

Hi there,

Just got a new phone - HTC Wildfire S, running android.

Question is this: How do I configure the wifi settings to enable me to access wifi whilst on campus at my university?

Usually, on a laptop, I would connect to the wifi using Cisco AnyConnect VPN client.

However, I've been advised by the university that there is no available mainstreamVPN client for android, and that the only available clients require me to use custom ROMs or to root my device.

They have given me the details I need to use if I am comfortable doing this (i.e. gateway, ID, secret, username and password), but my problem is:

- I don't know what clients to use
- I don't know what custom ROMS are or how to root my phone.

So, can anybody offer instructions?

Im not sure that is legit. I use my android on networks all over the city, and have never had a problem connecting to any wifi network. Does the university require a password or is it possibly set up as a wap or wap-II

The network is secured and passworded such that only students of the university may login.

I can access public wifi sources as well as home wifi source when I know the password.

Like I said, in order to access it using a computer you need a VPN client (Cisco AnyConnect in particular), which then requires you to set the proper gateway and then insert your username and password. I'm just trying to find the equivalent process for my phone, because obviously there is no Cisco AnyConnect (or other mainstream vpn client) for android.
