Lurker
Hi, all,and thank you in advance for your help. My niece has an Acer A500 tablet and her sister locked it by trying to unlock it too many times. It says onscreen to go to her Google account to unlock. She had to change the password for her Google account, she had forgotten it. Now the tablet will not connect to the internet so she can unlock it. She doesn't want to do a hard reset because she has pictures and videos of her recently deceased grandfather on the tablet. Is there any way to get the pictures off of it? How can she unlock it with no internet access? Please help, she is so upset, she is crying. Thanks again.

Google has account recovery options in the event you've forgotten your password. Your best chance is going down that avenue.

Simply hit the "forgot password" link when signing into google

She changed her password via our desktop, and she can sign into her gmail. The tablet is not connected, says no internet connection, so she cannot sign in on the tablet. Thanks for your help.

Not to contradict you but it isn't that easy. The way buttons are pushed, the order, how many times, in what mode, and I found the following mentions to be extremely important, however am not an expert and am in the same situation without any furthering to resolve the situation. My A500 went from (forgot pattern) to Google sign-in screen. There are no options (I cannot find any and have been reading and trying things for over a year to no avail.) I recently read after the paper-clip procedure to press the power button TWICE. This did turn out to be accurate. Also keep pressing the power button after it has turned off to dissipate static - is accurate - count to 10. Google does not offer assistance nor did Acer unless paying more than original cost - data retrieval the primary reason. Also a recent note is something important as if one updated the update.zip or OTA, the tablet needs to be returned to the stock factory state before it can be rooted - can anyone validate that for me? When I did the paperclip, it simply turned power off - nothing was reset. The only means I could change the screen was to use a USB keyboard. I then had access to the camera but it wouldn't unlock. I re-applied the update.zip recently and lost the WiFi icon from the status bar. I utilized Mobogenie and got the tablet connected to the PC but can't do anything else other than download my data and apps. Something seems to be missing though. I also had tried the nakedugly driver manager process but so scared to brick beyond repair. I have read about CWM and again fear due to lack of knowledge and seemingly missing steps. I have a number of what I believe to possibly be the cpuid or uuid or uid, not certain which is which. The most promising I've found was to "write out" the secure pattern lock altogether but got stumped at SDK and Eclipse and then found there are other apps similar and not certain if they are compatible. More than anything I'd like to simply scrub the lot and start over with factory anything. I had HC 3.0 when purchased with a following OTA HC 3.1 days later. Successful OTA HC 3.2 and during an OTA update (same day I forgot the pattern), things went amiss. A few months later the tablet no longer showed up on Google and now, even though with Mobo I got all my personal files and apk files exported to my PC, which one is the pattern lock and can I delete it? Thereby circumvent the thing altogether? It lost the WiFi icon on the status bar after the second try at update.zip. Before, it had had an exclamation mark in it and additionally, no icon responds other than the keyboard settings anyway. I have lots of icons for bluetooth. Is there a bluetooth remedy for unlocking? I thought I read about sending an SMS to unlock. I tried to root with Mobo but the progress bar gets about 1/3 done and that's it. Any help would be appreciated. I did download the SDK and Eclipse but don't know how to use them yet. And recall something about API and ASP but when I got to this point my brain was swimming and here I am searching again. I'll gladly donate if someone can accurately post specific steps how to remove the pattern screen and reestablish the WiFi.

I've already got a moderator at Acer denying my posts because I used the word "moderator" and it was actually an apology for duplicating but I'm not knowledgeable and subsequently read another post that went into detail about "moderators" and included a serial number so it's just me. Well good luck to all and remember: Smiles 4 Miles

So are you saying you have a rooted tablet. If you at least have the cupid you can root ,flash a custom recovery and flash a Rom to restore your tablet. Your cupid should look similar to this 0x0288424343012497 but it isn't the same as this one. If you have this number I will try to help you get up and running but its at your own risk of course.

Have you tried to hook up with a usb cable and get into the tablet with the computer like with ADB or other tools. You will probably have to do the reset to get into it.
