Root Activate with non stock prl

Lurker
Is it possible to activate the phone with a different prl. I was using Gingerbread with a different prl on my Triumph have to switch back to the LG Optimus V for a while. I want to revert back to the Triumph. I'm sure that I have to be on froyo to activate but don't know about the PRL.

I have swapped between my Triumph, and a Wildfire I bought (which sucks), and didn't have any problem with custom prls on either of them when activating.

Should be fine as long as you have your MSL number which is needed for swapping PRL's anyhow. long story but I antecedently deactivated my phone back when I first purchased it and after following the derections for changing PRL with QPST & Anycut my phone was activated after it rebooted during the last step of the process.

What is it exactly in the stock ROM that allows activation, that is not in any of the custom ROMs?

I'm not sure exactly for one the activate.apk, and there's some core stuff for activating that's missing in other roms. Theoretically if you could find all the stuff needed you could transfer it into another rom to activate. But I'm not sure what is missing from other roms that don't allow you to activate.

I could be wrong, but I think that Activate.apk is more for convenience than anything else, you can activate the phone from itself without having to go to a website (In theory anyway, I could never get the effing thing to work).

Thanks though :)

Actually you have to run that to connect your phone to the servers even if you activate online.

Oh ok. It's been a while since i activated mine, and it was an... interesting process. Learned a lot about how useless VM's regular customer service is lol.

I'm pretty sure it's the same for most companies customer service. I have had to activate Tracfone phone's for my aunt and uncle and their customer service sucks. Activating my T-mo phone took forever cuz Customer service sucks lol. I think that's pretty universal. I think it's because usually its a call center in some other part of the world, and they just tell you the same thing over and over.

Yeah, it didn't help that I had a rare problem. Basically, the first Triumph I bought had a broken earpiece speaker, so Motorola sent me a replacement. After about 2 months of this replacement refusing to activate, it turns out that Motorola didn't release its ESN to VM. Not that they'll admit it.

Speaking of which, for anyone interested, don't even bother with VM's regular customer support. They have a separate tech support number that actually is, ya know, worth a damn. It's 866-553-9807. There's also the main headquarters and "Executive Escalation," 908-607-4000 and 855-250-5271, respectively.
