Help Activation process

So my wife picked up the nexus for her and me while i was out of town on thursday and when I got home i turned mine on activated fine and everything and am now using it. My wife said the guy at the store made her an appointment for Wednesday to do her activation. He said that she had to wait until she was a week out from her real upgrade date to activate it. Her upgrade date on verizon.com is 12/27, is this true? Or can I just shutdown her old phone now and activate her Nexus? I really can't imagine that is accurate. I'm suspecting he just did not give her a sim card, but haven't looked in her gnex box yet.....
 
You should be able to shut her old phone down and activate the nexus. Phone swap should have no affect to contract. Contract is only there for phone pricing
