Help Ad Hoc Networking

Does anyone know how to setup up an adhoc connection from my android to my windows 7 laptop. I went in on my laptop and set one up but my android can not connect to it. It just hangs on connecting. I read there maybe a tweak I have to apply to do enable this option. Can someone assist me please.

As far as I know, unrooted Android phones cannot connect to ad-hoc networks. For me, a simple solution that does not require rooting is to turn all the ad-hoc networks into virtual Access Points by using a software called "Virtual AP" on Windows 7. Basically, this will turn your laptop into a virtual AP and your ad-hoc networks will be seen by Android phones as networks with APs. If you are using a computer with an Intel wifi card, you can use a free software called Intel MyWifi, which will function in the same way as Virtual AP.

Ad hoc networking is not supported on our phones, aside from maybe in a custom ROM, in the future.
Your options so far, depending on what you're trying to achieve, are either open garden (it is an ad hoc connection), adb wireless, Bluetooth file transfer, or other apps of the same caliber.

To add a layer of clarification, ad hoc is possible on android wothout root, if you're using 2.3 or above (whhich we don't have, we are on 2.2)
But yes, 2.2 requires root for ad hoc

I am currently rooted and using basix. I will try the virtual ap option later. The main reason is the hotel I am staying in has free wifi but my android is going at like dial up speed but if I connect my laptop to the wired it is much faster so I figured setting up a pass through would improve my speed.
