Adata 32GB Micro SDHC for $16.99?! + Class 4 vs. Class 10 Question

ADATA 32GB microSDHC Flash Card with SD Adapter | eBay

It's a good brand, a good deal, and from a trusted vendor!! I used the eBay TigerDirect in case you wanted to save more with your eBay Bucks coupon. :)

Anyway, the other day I read somewhere that having a class 4 card made it difficult or not even allow you to record videos at 720p much less 1080p from your smartphone.... Is that true? Granted, I am using my OE which isn't able to record at such a level, though it should be, but I like to swap my SD card to any newer phone I may get, which would probably have 720p or even 1080p at that point....

  • Read Speed: up to 10 - 14 MB/s
  • Write Speed: up to 2 - 5 MB/s
With that write speed, it's fine as a data card, but if you want to shoot video, don't bother.

I'm using a class 4 card in my OE and it works fine. I've also used class 4 SDHC cards to shoot 1080p/bitrate of 24mbps in a camcorder without issue.

As far as getting a higher class to future-proof the card, if you're talking a couple of years from now, perhaps a phone/device you would have in the future might require higher than class 4 to shoot video.

As far as the OE, I am absolutely certain that class 4 is compatible.

I have a C4 in my camcorder and when I shoot 720p it stutters in playback. I wonder if your camcorder has internal memory to which it buffers to it before writing to the card.

I personally buy the fastest card I can get and almost always buy Sandisk.
I just purchased a 32 GB class 10 Samsung card (first Samsung card I'm trying) for $4.00 more then the class 4 card in the ebay link supplied.
On ebay and some other sites, counterfeit cards are sometimes sold. I use ebay because of the buyer protection. Use 2Htestw to verify the card is what is the seller claims it to be.

If it's not, open a case and get your money back.

When my PC had only the included 256 MB video card, there was stuttering during HD playback. It cleared up when I upgraded to a 512mb card.

Trying to see the relevance of this. I know the cause of the stutter, the C4 card. I replaced it with a C10 and there is no longer a stutter problem.

It was relevant in my situation. Playing HD/mts files on my PC with my old card would cause stutter. Replacing the card permitted smoother playback.

EDIT: To clarify "card", I mean replacing a 256MB PCI express video card with a 512MB card.

Here is the problem... Class ratings are B.S.
A Class 4 Sandisk will outperform a cheap class 10. So while one person can say "my class 4 works fine", another is going to say "my class 4 is horrible!"

Don't look at classes, you need to look up read and write speeds and assume the worst. The card in the op says 2-5meg write, you can bet you wikll only see 5 in rare instances, and probably 2-3in most. Meanwhile a Sandisk Class 4, will maintain a solid 4-5meg write. Both are class 4, it's just one has rated theirs based on an average rather than a high.

I have several class 4 cards, one barely manages 2.5 most of the time, another maintains a constant 4 with spikes to 5 on writes. For reads, one will barely pull 5-8 megs, another pulls 25 and one spikes to 28-30 on occasion. Again, all are class 4.

I couldn't agree more!!! One of the reasons I read reviews like a maniac (yup I'm anal). The link I posted earlier includes reviews with speed test results. I recommend everyone does research before buying.
