Help adding custom ringtones

Ok I thought I would play around and add some custom ring tones. Guess my TB had other ideas. Went to the sd card created a folder called ringtones and another called notifications...copied my mp3 ring tones in to the folders and restarted the phone. Simple enough. Nope my TB doesn't see any of the new sounds. So I copied the folders to /media....still no joy. Also restarted the phone..pulled battery..danced in a circle chanting in tongues...prayed to the verizon gawds...stood on my head and still the phone wont see them.

Now on a side note...I have also noticed that gallery will not see any of my vids or pics either. I did try re-seating the sd card for this and it didn't help. I however can see the vids and pics with astro. I only mention this since it could be related to the ring tone issue I am having.

Any suggestions as to what is going on?

I had a similar problem on my OG Droid, except with music I had on the SD card. The problem was a few bad mp3's; they played fine on my PC but the phone didn't like them, apparently. I deleted all my music and put it back on, one artist at a time. You might have a bad mp3 or something. Try adding the ringtones just a few at a time and see if the phone recognizes them.

There is a .nomedia in the sd root but not in the folders themselves. I will try adding them one at a time then. I got these using zedge, but hey you never know. Do I ahve to reboot the phone after each one is added or will the sd scanning that happens after I unplug the phone be enough?

Ok this one is solved. The .nomedia folder in the root of the sd card was causing the issue. I renamed that folder and poof my TB sees the ring tones and notification sounds I added. And to think that I was dancing in a circle speaking in tongues at work...boy don't I feel foolish now.

I wanted a custom ringtone for my HTC inspire. I put the mp3 in a folder named Ringtones on my sd card and everything was good except that the mp3 would also show up in my music list. Following the directions above, I added a file named .nomedia in the Ringtones folder. This kept the mp3 file from showing up in my music list, but it also kept it from showing up in the list of ringtones. So, I tried renaming the .nomedia file to .nomusic... And lo and behold... the mp3 shows up in the ringtone list but not in any music list.
