Help Adding Fonts

Just picked up my Captivate the other day so the phone is stock. Im coming over from an iPhone4 so Im learning a bit.

I downloaded a font in apk format and adding it to myfiles. Just wondering if Im going the wrong way of making this my font.

im pretty sure the only way u can get fonts on your captivate by doing it the way you did is by rooting it.

i always wanted new fonts but could never get them on my stock phone because your phone usually wont let you download out of market apps. when i rooted i could download those apps and it let me put fonts on my phone.

A good app to use is an app called fontomizer

Can you send me in the right direction for more info and how to root my phone if I decide too?

I had my iphone jailbroken so Im not sure if it is similar with android?

If you update to 2.2 Froyo then menu-settings-display-font style-get fonts online. This will pull up a list of fonts available in the market some free others cost. Also some do require the device to be rooted.
