Help Adding notification ringtones

I want to add a specific notification ringtone to my husbands contact. I cant figure out how to do it. I am using a ringtone maker app and I made it, clicked use as notification but when I go to his contact and click on the notification ringtone, the song I added isnt on the list. HELP????

Where did you place the ringtone (assume it is a MP3)? It should be in a folder on the phone memory rather than the SD Card. There is a folder called "media" you should create subfolder of it and name it "ringtones". Place the MP3 in that folder and try again to use it for your husband

I have done that but the song isnt on the list when I click on his contact. Not sure what I am doing wrong
You copied it to the wrong directory. There should be a Notifications directory. Put it in there.

Edit: ever since ICS, you no longer need the Media directory. The default folders are located as:

1) /sdcard/Alarms
2) /sdcard/Notifications
3) /sdcard/Ringtones

This is not correct. The ringtone doesn't have to be on the phone storage in order to use ringtones or alerts.

I linked to a post I made in the Motorola Photon forums, but it'll apply for any and all Android phones that have an external SD card

That information is also located at the FAQ sticky at the top of the Note 2 forum:

Really? Oh man, I didn't even realize that changed in ICS (I guess because the Photon never got stock ICS). Oh well, it still identifies with the media folder.

Yeah, I remember with GB, I needed to make the Media folder. But since ICS, I noticed it already had the default folders setup. So I plopped all my mp3s into the appropriate folders and left it at that. No need to create new folders/subfolders. LOL.

Yes, you can do it to the SD card but on some phones there is a time delay for it getting the ringtone and you will lose it and it will go to the default ring. I have this problem on my S3

That's pretty awesome. I might re-organize the sub-folders to reflect the updates (although, as the saying goes...if it ain't broke...LOL).
