Adding phone number to a text

Is there a way to add a phone number from your Contacts to a text message, without attaching the contact as a vCard? Some of my friends can't get the attachment and I just want to be able to copy and paste the number into the text body. Anyone else have this issue?

Go to the edit menu for the contact, place finger on number until pop-up appears with copy all, and select. Open Message app, place finger on window until pop-up appears, and select paste. Seemed to work for me.
