Help adding words to a spelling suggestion list

My friend has a Sprint Android. She can add words with a plus sign to teach her phone to recognize spelled words as correct. Any idea how to do this? Also every single time I try to use the word "is," my Android defaults to "us."
Help to correct? Thanks.

I don't know about adding words on the stock keyboard, but if you go into Settings>Keyboards and Language, turn off any kind of auto-correct option for misspelled words, that will stop stupid auto-corrects such as "is" to "us" and, as a friend told me over the weekend, "boots" to "boobs". Long story short, someone texted that she was going to buy boots, and it auto-corrected to boobs, and hilarity ensued.

While using the swype kb u have to dbl tap the word u want to delete then press the swype key and it will u give u a mess sayin that word has been deleted. While using stock with suggestions on the word pops under the kb just long press it. If the word is not on the list just complete word and it will show in its complete form. Long press that and there ya go
