Where did you get sdcard/hosts from? It's either system/etc or data/data/com.bigtincan.adfree blah blah.

I read on XDA Developers forum that AdFree creates /sdcard/hosts and I need to copy it to /data/data/hosts and then create a soft link from /system/etc/hosts to it. There was even a script for this: HTC AdFree Fix - xda-developers. Perhaps the thread is outdated.
