Help Admitted Android dummy needs help

RRMan03

Newbie
I am new to Android. Yes this means dummy. Here is what I need. When I set the alarm, put the phone in silent mode, put it to sleep in 2 minutes will it leave me alone until the alarm time. No emails, notifications, calls etc. Just silence till the alarm goes off. Them I have to reset each of these every day correct? Is there a way to set it up to alarm in the same way each day except weekends. Like I said simple dummy question. I am learning but still have about 90 percent to go LOL Love Android coming from BB but in BB some of the steps are much simpler. Some much harder and Android apps well no comparision.Any tips or help appreciated. Give me 6 months and I will be the one helping not asking. That is what forums are for. To learn and share. The Galaxy Nexus is without question very advanced and I am sure rooted it will be even more of everything. I appreciate anyone who takes the time to answer and if you have a smart ass answer just do not post it please or I will give you to the mods. Thanks for all who try to help.

the alarm clock gives you the option to repeat daily. you can pick the days you want too.

go to your email and text screens, hit settings and opt out of notifications. (the three dots) :)

First, RRMan, you are NOT a dummy. You were smart enough to ask for help, and that indicates a willingness to learn and know. THAT'S not dumb.

Second, while I'm sure there's an app for this, I have found the easiest way to quiet the phone for sleep, etc. is to either lay on the volume down button until you're on Silent; or go into Settings --> Sound and put it in Silent Mode. That quiets EVERYTHING.

If you want ONLY the alarms, then hit "Volumes" in the same Sound Setting and turn down the first two bars, leaving only the alarm sound enabled.

I am confident that someone else will come in with a better solution for you, but that's what I have on the fly. Hope it helps :)

While I don't have this phone, on my Motorola A855 (OG Droid) I use an app called "Flip Silent". If I don't want to 'hear' from my phone, all I have to do is place it face down. It's a shot in the dark as I don't know if it's been updated for Android 4.x.x (ICS) and I don't use my phone for an alarm so I don't know if it would also silence alarms.

good luck

p.s. I agree with chief, the only 'dummy' question is the one that's not asked until you have already screwed up.

Thanks for all the input so far. So much to learn and the more aps you get the more you have to learn. I guess that is why they call it a smart phone. Now if it just had a smart owner. LOL Sometimes you have to be samrter than the equipment.

Give it time, and you will be up to speed in no time. That's the beauty of Android, versus the other OS, you can tailor it to exactly fit your needs.

Easier said than done sometimes, isn't it? :D

We were ALL newbies at one time or another. In November 2009, I put away my LG Dare for a revolutionary device - the Motorola Droid - and got to learn Android alongside everyone else.

We all have a learning curve, and pretty soon - like you said - you'll be helping other people with their phones just as you're getting help now. It's all about paying it forward here in the forums... and I have no doubt that, in time, you'll be an Android sage (maybe even a Guide or Mod!) to the less experienced Android users yet to come.

So never be afraid to ask a question: the answer may help someone else reading it. And if you get a problem resolved, let us know how to do it so we all get smarter as a collective :)

Check out alarm clock xtreme in the market... allows phone to alarm even on silent... sett different times each day.. exactly what you are looking for

Chief:

You are in Manchester TN. Not too far away.Im in Athens TN. near Cleveland. Only problem where I live it is VZW or nothing so its VZW. And if you want answers to your questions you sure do not ask VZW unless you are trying to get another phone. They do not have a clue when it come to answering simple questions. You know if I worked there I would at least log on these forums and try to get a customer an answer. It would make them look much better and who would ever know except them. At least I am smart enough to just come to the forums and ask or search if I cannot figure it out.

Can't stess ^^^^ this enough. What's funny is I moved to the Droid from the exact same phone, lets not get started on the Dare, that thing made me angry lol...

Also there is a really nice alarm app called Gentle Alarm. It isn't free but it is worth every single penny IMHO...

I use an app called Gentle Alarm. It's $2.86 but there's a trial version if you want to test it out first. I use the settings under Night Display to mute all notifications once put into Night Display mode. The screen can be set to stay on, to fade down to almost nothing, or to turn off completely while in night mode. Then you can exit out of it at any time and your notifications will jump back to normal. Gentle Alarm also allows you to set up all sorts of different alarm profiles, choosing days, etc..even allows you to set a quiet pre-alarm to wake you up (you guess it) gently. :-)

The paid version is here and the free trial should be listed off to the left side.
