Advanced Task Killer Not Necessary on Bionic?

When I went in to deal with another issue at the Verizon store the other night, the guy behind the counter told me that this app (as well as the free antivirus tool from AVG) are not needed, and will cause problems on the Bionic. Is that true? If so, can anyone provide more specifics, perhaps a link to a thread here or to the official documentation regarding these issues?

How do I square posts like this and this with ones like this

....I suppose the squaring would be in this post....yes?

Response from johngalt (which I will respond to after I get the rest of my 'Questions' threads created)...

Q2: How do you square those off?

Simple - the users who claim that it helps with their battery life insist on keeping applications that have services that run in the background, causing battery drain, and by killing those apps that only run a service at one time (during boot) they'll be saving some battery b/c those services are not active.

however, with apps that continually restart their services, a TM can also come in handy b/c the TM monitors for those apps and kills the task upon initiation by ... wait for it....

Running a service.

The people who have crappy battery life need to first watch the stickified post by Frisco in this forum and understand just why their batteries really drain. The other thing to consider is that very few people have performed objective studies on the use of TMs, most of the information is anecdotal (with a lot of factual and theoretical backing) and most of the claims are subjective at best.

I would just like to go on record that is the first time that i've heard of a VZW at the store NOT recommending useless task killer apps.

give that guy a raise.

task killer apps are not needed on any form of GB no matter what device it is on.

if you get some free time google the following

"why i don't need task killers on android"

Ya....I don't know if you noticed the threads I linked to in the OP. I have indeed already seen the general talk about it, and I was just wondering about the Bionic specifically.....I assume now there's no difference that would suddenly make them useful on the Bionic when they weren't before....OK, I get that....ha ha.

Thanks, man.

The REALLY weird thing is that the BIONIC also comes with it's own task manager to begin with....

That might be why (now) VZW reps are starting to change their tune....

windows also has automatic task killers... how many times have you had to go into task manager and end a task...

Automatic TMs and Manual TMs are 2 different things.

With Advanced Task Manager you can set it to auto kill tasks as they start to run.

Windows TM does not do that on its own - you have to manually do it.

let me rephrase. how many times have you closed a program out in windows, just to later see it running in the background? i look as task killer like my windows task manager. its good to have it for quick access to shut stuff down. i know alot of times stuff comes right back up but not everything does. im not worried about android embedded apps running but alot of times apps ive downloaded wont shut down unless i kill them.

Feel free to read those other threads as well. I only close out apps when 1) I want the most mem and CPU available for gaming (yes, even with 12 GB behind an Intel Core i7 965 EE, I want to minimize interruptions!) or if something has hung - an I get hung apps maybe 10 times a year....

I get more hung apps on my phone than I do on my computer, so....

not often?

never for the reason in which you imply imo

The only time i force stop something is because its locked up.

that makes zero sense. if you are a power user which most of us are. control freaks to make sure everything is running in optimal condition, you would definitely do it for the reason i stated. i dont know why people cant simply affirm to a quality statement.

You're asking subjective questions and expecting factual bases for them.

I've been building my own computers for 15 years, I worked in the IT industry for more than 12, and I maintain a very nice home network at my place comprising of 3 mobile devices and (currently) 4 computers, and am in the process of streamlining everything with a Windows home Server build.

So, yeah, I'm probably not the best person to ask when it comes to how the average person uses a computer or apps on a computer.

same boat as you except i went from IT administration to OSP Comms.

I think the built in task manager is a LOT better than other apps like advanced task manager, mainly because they allow a 2 minute window for them to stop being used/stop running, they don't auto kill it the minute you hit the screen off.
