advanced task killer. WHICH ONE?

I got my phone a little over a week ago. It's 1.5 and I noticed right away that the battery was not lasting long at all. I took it to the place I bought it (Verizon Store)and explained what was happening. The guy put ATK on it and showed me that a ton of programs were running. I had no idea. Since then, battery life has improved significantly. How else was I to know the cause without ATK? I'd rather not have apps on my phone if I don't need them. And right now, because it's new, and I'm learning about this stuff, I prefer to keep it that way to "stay out of trouble" so to speak.

In my experience, using a Task Killer killed my battery because I was constantly using it to kill my apps.

With 2.1 we gained a Running Services fuction on the Eris. IF you need to kill an app you can do it there without having to install a different app to do it.

To answer the OP's question though, I've read many complaints about Advanced Task Killer killing things it shouldn't, and have seen fewer of the same type of complaints about Advanced Task Manager (note 'manager' instead of 'killer'). If you feel the need to install one, I'd suggest ATM rather than ATK. Back when I had one installed it was ATM.

Ya, I just use Running Services. No need for a task killer.

have a new eris phone and don't have task killer on it the 2nd time around. what killer do you recommend? TIA

wonder why verizon didn't install it this time.

If you are actually going to run one, I would suggest System Panel. It is a little more than just a task killer and actually shows you what state your applications are in. With any Sense based phone I would avoid using anything with an auto kill feature or you are just going to be restarting Sense on a regular basis or trying to figure out why certain features of your phone have stopped working. I would also look at what some of the other users have said about their actual use of a task killer. Most users don't kill things on a regular basis, but rather use it only occasionally. Constantly killing apps usually gets people into trouble.

That would actually be nice. She doesn't post as much since becoming a mod.

that she doesn't. Mods really should get more involved with the GenPOP of the forums. Anyway, after many many people have done various tests it really is inconclusive if a task killer is needed. Some people use them others don't. The Eris is a phone, use it how you want to. This isn't the iphone, its fully customizable to they way you want it.
I don't use one, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't.

But yet again, I'm the sexy chick in a bathtub ;)

We never get the time. :(

We should start a list of bad apps that love to start on their own for no reason...

Amazon MP3 store
Mabilo products
Slacker Radio

i used to never run a task killer. i installed one for sh!ts n giggles recently and HOLY CRAP! i felt like i just realized i had been driving my car with the e brake on the entire time.

it works for my phone, i never have anything force quitting or restarting randomly. i dont do it everyday, only when my phone starts to lag.
