Advice from Incredible users

Hello my Android minded friends--

I currently have an HTC Droid Eris, which I loved when I first got, but am now on my fourth handset in ten months and looking to update in February. A coworker of mine has the Incredible and likes it a lot, so I was just hoping to get some advice from other people.
The issue I've had with my Eris is that the screens all move to the left, making it near impossible to work with when it gets insistent. It's been blamed to both being hardware and software, depending on whom you talk to. My coworker had said it has happened to his Incredible before, so does anyone else have this issue? I would hate to upgrade my phone to one that has the same one I'm trying to get away from.

Also, just in general, what do you like about it and what don't you like? How it works, does it lag up, does it feel nice in your hand, how is it with a case, etc?

I have replaced an Incredible due to similar issues in the past, but I think it was a faulty optical trackball that was the problem.

I'm on my 4th Incredible. The first two i had, the external speaker blew, and the other had the issue that i mentioned above. My wife, however, has had her Incredible since release and had zero issues with it.

When it comes down to it, i would recommend the Incredible to anyone. Other than the issues I've had with the speaker, it has truly been an exceptional phone. I wouldn't trade mine for any other phone on the market.

+1 to that.
Most people issues with the screen moving by itself are just because of a dirty trackball.
This is the best phone I've had and I recommend it to everyone.

had my incredible since about a month after release, best phone i have ever owned hands down. Recently rooted the phone and now i love it even more. If you are a fan of sense i would recommend the device. Even if you aren't a fan of sense you can easily go to a different rom or use a home replacement app from the market. The incredible is still the fastest phone out for verizon, and it is also rumored to be one of the devices to get gingerbread. It has outlived my expectations for a phone and IMO is a BIG improvement over the eris.

Dude... I had this happen the other day, and I really felt it was somehow related to the chocolate covered cupcakes I was stuffing down my face. I didn't consider it was the trackpad, but now that you say that, I bet it was because I had goo all over my hands.

Here's another recent thread from an eris user with similar questions.

http://androidforums.com/incredible-all-things-root/245476-anyone-come-rooted-eris.html

I had the screen scrolling left all the time (and appdrawer scrolling up) on my Eris, too....even though the trackball was clean, it was due to a (known) hardware issue that had to do with the charging port being too close to trackball. If they offer you an incredible replacement, take it! Even if the same issue happens further along the line, it's still a better phone and it's not like your Eris is going to do any better :p

I had the Eris before I got my incredible and the Eris sucked. I hated it. It was slow, laggy, and small. The incredible is a million times better. I've never had a problem with my incredible. Its one of the best devices I have ever owned.

You've all been super helpful, thanks. :) As far as all of the HTC phones on the market right now (because I love sense), I'll probably be getting an Incredible.

Anything you guys would recommend? Accessories, parts, covers, etc?

Do some searching around the forums... there's an abundance of information on here. Also, Google is your friend. You'll want to look into an extended battery if you're even a moderate user; anything else is cosmetic/ultility preference.

I would say wait for the Thunderbolt or the bionic. They are supposed to be out first quarter i believe. The incredible is just that but no sense in buying something that is slightly outdated when you can pay just a bit more for the current device.

You should get the Incredible from Best Buy. I got them to install the Zagg screen protector the second it was out of the box and i am so glad i did. The screen on my eris had so many scratches on it and i didnt want the same to happen to my incredible!

It is very comforting to know my screen is protected no matter what!

I also wouldn't recommend getting the Zagg scree protector unless you plan on getting Best Buy to install it because it is quite difficult to do. I think it costs 8 dollars for them to do it for you. It is well worth it!!

I switched from an Eris to an Incredible about a month ago. Let me tell you what its like in one rambling run on sentence:

The droid Eris is a lie, it is not a smartphone it is a heavy laggy piece of metal and plastic that should be left to perform mundane tasks like holding papers down on a breezy day as you sit on the beach happily playing with your fast and wonderful HTC Incredible in a dream world it has manufactured for you with its processor and brilliant display, only looking up from it when your super model wife walks over and asks you if you want an additional beer which has been brewed with exotic hops and the laughter of small school children petting kittens.

That is all.

Interesting but odd imagination you have there.

Had a Eris......hated it! Have a Incredible.....LOVE IT! I would highly recommended rooting it. HTC Sense is nice, but weighs down the Inc. something terrible, however you won't notice it till you root. Coming from and Eris I'm sure even a stock Inc. will dazzle you!!!!

I will agree with a earlier poster though, at this point wait for a LTE phone, can only get better!

Side note, received my Inc. on release date, never a issue!!!!

Just be careful what you wish for... neither the Thunderbolt nor the Bionic have an AMOLED screen. Having had my Incredible since the day it was released, and having seen most of the other non-AMOLED screen smartphones by now, there's simply NO WAY I'd even consider getting a phone that's not AMOLED or Super AMOLED.

I don't think I'll be getting the Thunderbolt anyway, and I love Sense too much to go with anything besides HTC.

One of the appeals of the Inc is that it's small. I don't want a huge phone like the Droid or Thunderbolt.

I'm just hesitant to get one now since it's been out for so long, I don't want Verizon to come out with another Incredible-sized phone over the summer and forget about the Inc like they did Eris :P

I came from the Eris to the Incredible and I am very happy, my first Incredible was faulty but Verizon replaced it no questions asked. I am very happy with the 2nd Incredible, it is all the phone I need, I think you will also be very happy with it. Size, performance it's all I need. I have no desire to pay for the 4G tiered plans. Good Luck on your decision. If you move to the Incredible, I doubt you will be unhappy. It is everything I hoped the Eris would be. :D:D:D

PS: I have Ver 002 with the Amoled screen it is beautiful !!!

OK, here's my stupid question for the day. :)
How do you know this? I just got a DInc yesterday but darned if I can find anything either on the phone or in the manuals that say what the screen is. It's a new phone so I have to assume the above is true for it, but I'd like to know for sure.

if it is new, it has an SLCD screen. Just go to settings>about phone>hardware information>hardware version

if the number is 0003 you have SLCD if it is 0002 it is an AMOLED screen

This is because samsung stopped supplying HTC with the AMOLED screens in order to have enough all of their new phones. So all new HTC Incredibles have and SLCD screen.

I see you already received your answer. Hope you did get the amoled screen in my opinion it is far superior to the slcd screen.:D:D:D:D:D

PS: Hardware Ver 0002

everything I hope the Eris would be, except the Eris was built 10 times better. I can't wait for the Thunderbolt that thing looks rock solid.

I don't know about 10x better but i would say the eris' build quality is on par with the incedible's, but that is the only way the Eris even comes close to beating the incredible. The incredible (IMHO) is better than the Eris in every way possible.

oh I def agree the Inc is better in every way I just think that if the Eris had the track pad and insides of the Incredible, then... the phone would be Incredible lol. I think the thunderbolt is going to be worth the upgrade, taking out the track pad gives valuable real estate on the beautiful 4.3" screen.

Thanks guys, hardware version is 0003. In either case this display is far nicer than on the Eris I had previously.

bought my incredible the day it came out and have had zero issues with the phone. I would highly recommend it to anybody looking for an android phone
