advice from someone with experience with eating disorders

gallandof

Android Expert
Just looking to find someone who has either themselves or through close friends or family had first hand experiences with eating disorders. I'm starting to take my eating more seriously, as I've always been ignorant about it. Are eating disorders something that can manifest themselves without someone knowing? or is it something thats more mind over matter.

I think eating disorders happen without someone really knowing depending on what it is. I think I might have an eating disorder. I am always freaking hungry no matter what. Being in the military not even sure how I should approach the doc without them thinking I am just trying to get out of something.

If you think that you may have an eating disorder, you need to talk to a doctor about it.

i'm the opposite, im never hungry and maybe eat 1 meal every 2-3 days(for at least the past 2 or so years.) just out of habit and knowing that I should, and I can barely stand the thought of eating early in the day. Obviously thats not normal but at the same time, I have a personal vendetta against doctors lately, and try to avoid them best as possible. Was hoping some people here would have some advice without having to resort to medication (eww icky pharmaceuticals)

It's not like I don't want to eat, which confuses me because all my life i've always thought eating disorders where kinda by choice (the typical "eww im fat, im gonna stop eating(even though they're a twig) but the more i look at how I eat I start to worry more and more.

I wish I could only eat once every two or three days. I will eat until I feel sick, it is the only way I feel full, then 10 minutes later after the sicky feeling passes, I feel like I haven't eaten anything and I actually have hunger pains.

I think it varies by person. For some it is choice, and for others like you or myself, it isn't.

There are a lot of message boards and websites dealing with this. An Android web forum probably isn't the best place to get info/advice from on this particular subject matter..

One of my best friends used to be just like you Gallandof. He hardly ever ate, and when he did it wasn't pleasant. He was basically having to force food down his throat to keep himself alive. (And one thing fixed it.) But I am not going to suggest it publicly, because it is still illegal in most states. (Although, it's an option to consider if you don't want to deal with doctors.)

If you want to go to the doc without him/her thinking you're trying to get out of duty, go when you're off duty. Sick call is open on the weekends. You can even schedule appointments. At least, we could in the Navy. From your avatar, I'm assuming you're Air Force. And be straight with them. If I had a cold or needed an ice pack, I'd tell the doc that I needed it so I could get back to work. The people who get flak for trying to get out of work are the ones that ask for SIQ or look like they're faking.

Also, drink water. Water will take up space in your stomach and might help curve those hunger pains.

I'm no doctor, so I might be completely in left field, but you're not depressed, are you? Depression can do that to a person. And while you don't sound like you're depressed, depression can linger on someone even though they appear functional and maybe even appear happy.

Also, one thing that happens to me is that I have to change my diet. I'll eat the same thing over and over again until it gets so boring that I can't even force myself to eat it, even though I am hungry. So if you don't normally eat chinese, give it a shot. Or maybe a mexican dish.

The only thing a regular doctor can do for you is some tests to rule out medical reasons for your eating issues, which would probably be a good idea if you haven't done so already. Otherwise, the only kind of treatments I've seen work in the long term are found only at places such as this: Anorexia Bulimia Eating Disorder Treatment - Renfrew Center Philadelphia Florida
(Yes, most of that is geared toward women & girls, which you're probably already aware of. Still worth checking out.)

I would love to go back to that "medication" but work does test. luckily massachusetts is close to legalizing. That was one thing that definately helped (only times i had ever eaten breakfast in my independent life)

I know someone that had a eating disorder. She would hardly eat at all. I t stemmed from control issues. Her parents controlled her every move, so her eating is one thing she could control. They could not MAKE her eat. Jus my 2 cents.
