Advice on putting Jelly Bean over ICS

HenryJack

Newbie
Hi,

I have a 18 month old S2 and did have gingerbread on it. So rooted it and put ICS on it and have now changed the ROMS a few times. Very simple to do.

But now i would like JB on it and need to change the kernel and not 100% of doing it.

Can someone confirm this is the correct way.

I need to open odin and flash this file

Via PDA when phone is in download mode (volume/power/home)

And then after this has been done can put any ROM on it that contains JB.

Was told this is the best one at the moment

Does this look ok to everyone?

Hello HenryJack!

Your link refers to the CM10.1 ROM. Before flashing this it might be worth reading, "CyanogenMod CM10.1 ROM Android 4.2", to see if this is the ROM that you want.

Personally, I think I would be inclined to start by flashing, say, NEAT ROM for JB which, as you are already rooted I believe, will retain your root. For, "installation with full wipe", see post #3 of the NEAT ROM thread.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

I have changed ROM's many times but first time going to JB. Heard would need to change my kernal, is this true?

Yes it is, However, most custom ROM's, such as NEAT ROM, come with a JB compatible, rooted, kernel.

Thanks,

One more question if you don't mind.

whats the LS8/LSD/MS1 all about as not 100% sure what it is, and does each neatrom have its own version?

Android platforms such as JB are not just one firmware for everyone but rather they are constantly evolving and, hopefully, improving with bug fixes and features. LSD is the current Android version most widely released via Samsung and is very stable and safe. As you will see from my details on the left, I am on LSJ which is the leaked version of JB as I find this the best for me.
