If I go abroad and have roaming set to on but I have mobile network set to deactivated - I will be able to receive call/texts but not data, is that correct?
Data network mode set to deactivated will stop all data. You can still use wifi. You can still send and receive calls and texts. There is also an option in the settings to stop data roaming.
You should be fine by just unticking the "Data roaming" checkbox (under mobile networks in settings). Then it should not connect to data sources when roaming, but still receive texts and calls as it should.
I have always had that checkbox unticked and never been billed for data traffic while roaming abroad.
