Advice on TB or DX2

I just took a look at both Charge (again) and DX2 at store myself. DX2 screen is looking quite decent than I thought it would be. Quite crisp and bright. But Charge screen is better in color richness and contrast and it's very crisp too. Black on Charge looks purely black, so it gives dark feeling often but it's actually very bright on white area. In screen/camera departments, Charge wins clearly. But I'm impressed by new blur on DX2, much improved over previous ugly blur.

How'd you look at the DX2 in-store? Doesn't release until Thursday offline....

Ok man I have owned both phones, Ill give you a quick run down of what I thought:

-Thunderbolt- Pretty quick, I was getting a decent battery life, and that was unrooted with just mindful settings i.e. brightness, auto dim. I live in Boise so I didnt have LTE availbile so i cannot comment about that. The kickstand was solid and not very gimmicky. The thing that really got me is the fact HTC will not make sense 3.0 for this phone. plus its 250 on upgrade. Also NO HDMI out. The 32gb sd card pre installed is nice. Front facing camera is cool but not alot uses it. Also the charge port was placed wrong so if you want to watch something with it kick standed you wont be able to have it plugged in at the same time.

-Droid X2, Cheaper on upgrade!, HDMI mirroring is amazing. No LTE, but again not in my area so no big deal yet. Its a little laggy, i.e. on unlocks and typing, and I have yet to find a live wallpaper that doesnt make scrolling though your desktop screen laggy, plus while playing music, pandora and on sd card it glitches and skips every once and awhile. Which I hope gingerbread update will fix. Battery life isnt as good, if i charge it over night, around 9pm its almost out and thats on standard use with moderate texting.

I think thats about all I can think of, if you have any more questions ill answer them the best i can! I hope this helped atleast a little.

I personally over all would say I like the X2 more.

It only stands out when next to other devices...... I admit that sounds silly.

I can say that the first thing I noticed with the first Tbolt I played with in store was the dim screen. So I thought maybe it was just the brightness settings. Nope, even after cranking brightness all the way up, still dim. The real test came when I put the bolt next to my DX, which I had on autobrightness while the bolt was cranked up. DX still brighter. When they are both cranked up the DX is twice as bright. Personal preference aside, the Tbolt is much dimmer overall than the DX.

I never noticed any screen problem with my bolt. I consistently had it set to 30% and I had no problems. Then again, I had nothing to compare it too.

1. As far as dimness, everything is relative, since the eyes adjust. To see this in action, just looks at the video above. Your brain goes into shock when it has two things to compare and if a big difference, one will really stand out. If you go into a VZW and first look at the TB, it seems great, but when next to the DX2 or Charge- not so much.

2. amoled tech will always have better blacks, since the pixels are basically off and the material is black. The resulting contrast is profound, but comes at a price since some colors are too vivid and look cartoonish. The DX2 looks more natural to me and the contrast is good for non-amoled.

Sure hope the Rev is actviated today so can test it out and make a call. If the DX2 had LTE, I would already have one. Easier for me to try them out, rather than buy one and go through the hassle of returning one.

I miss the simple Tmo days of sim cards, since so easy to phone hop :( If only their coverage map did not suck in Kentucky :(

I agree with all of this. When I had my Inc with Amoled (which I loved BTW), I remember the first time I compared it to a DX instore and was very surprised and impressed with the brightness of the DX screen. Loved the deep oversatured colors of the Inc, but overall I actually found the brighter (if not more "washed out") screen of the DX actually superior, especially considering the size difference between the two. Last week when I compared my DX with the Charge I was also surprised that I actually may prefer the DX display over the nice, but decidedly darker display of the Charge. All things being equal the charges has an awesome display, but I really like a bright backlight over other things in a display. Guess I need to get my butt into a Verizon store and check out a DX2 display ASAP so I can get a true comparison with my DX. Hands on testing is really the best way to make a determination.

The camera in that video is adjusting to the brightness of the DX2, making the TB seem dimmer. I can assure you that the DX2 is quite a bit brighter than the TB. It's not real noticeable until you get outside in some sunlight. Though I still don't know which I actually like better with the pentile display on the DX2...
