I know I've asked a lot of questions about getting the stock Android apps and keyboards, etc. But I am very concerned as it may mean taking back my Eris.

For some reason, I just cannot stand the HTC apps. For example, the Messaging app, the black notification bar and different battery icon, the Mail app, etc. They just look cheap or something. I don't use Sense UI, I have it set to Default Home. I don't really like HTC's keyboard as much as the stock Android one either. I bought the Eris because of the price, and how much lighter and thinner it is and how much better it looks than the Motorola Droid. However, I would really love to know if we can get the stock Android look and feel, for example the stock Android keyboard, stock notification bar color, stock messaging app, after the 2.0/2.1 update or after it is rooted. It just looks so much more dark and rich. I don't like white color schemes like in the HTC messaging app. (And don't say use Handcent because I don't like it either and I don't want to replace any apps.) Is it possible to just install the stock Android OS after it is rooted?

If your not happy, return it for the droid.. or something else.. You'll just be miserable with it. Seems to me you've made your mind up.

Yes. Haha. I'm very picky. I like the stock Android look and feel. Like the white notification bar, dark messaging app, a cooler looking contacts app, all the things that HTC didn't make. I just want this HTC phone, running nothing but pure Android. Nothing special.

You can turn off sense, but I don't know if that will get rid of the HTC apps. You can look at the UI layout thread and some of the people there have turned sense off, so it will let you know what it looks like.

2.0/2.1 will not give you what you want because the update from HTC will still have sense imbedded on it. You will have to wait until the phone is rooted or take it back and get a different phone.

Gosh no one gets it. #1, I'm not changing phones, I can't. I'm 17 and my parents barely let me get this smartphone. #2, I know how to turn sense off and I said that I have it off at the top. Turning it off only changes the look of the home screen. That's it. All I'm asking is for pure Android on my phone. And my question is, is that possible after being rooted?

Sorry, I missed some of what you said in your first post. I guess you missed the answer to your question in mine. Guess we are even, stop complaining. :D

You want darker apps, but you don't like the black notification bar? I love it, and personally can't stand the white bar...

patience, friend.

i am waiting for ROOT for the same reasons you are - a ported, stock-ish version of android 2.0/2.1 can be flashed when root is available (along with other custom ROMs). root will let us do this, and more

Once it gets rooted you'll be good to go to just have the google experience phone. I bet it will be blazing :)

The grass is always greener.

All the Droid users want a black notification bar, HTC-style flip clock, People app, etc....

Root is not coming any time soon. This phone is locked down tighter than fort knox. But eventually it will come. Just not in the immediate future

Even more frustrating the leaked HTC Espresso build just got ported to the Moto Droid. Only way I'm keeping this phone is if root comes before the Nexus One is announced on sale for Verizon. If not, sorry Eris, I'm jumping ship. :/

I'll give you the props you deserve. Well said and I wish more people would speak up around here.
Sorry this is so far off topic but it needs to be said.
