Help After Android update headset mic stopped working when using phone

I upgraded my phone to the latest android version and thought it was great until i found out that my original headset with built in mic cannot be used for calling people while driving.

It simply doesn activate the mic in the headset, but continue using the mic on the phone even though i get the sound in my ears and it says headset connected.

When I connect the headset it shows some applications which is used with the headset, but not the phone app.

This worked just fine before the upgrade

Can any help me here, I really need this feature to work

What else have you tried to solve the problem?
-You could, restart the phone
-Find out if its a problem with the headset not the mic
-Get a better, newer mic headset and call it a present to yourself
-Or a new phone

Sure, I should have provided more details

I tested with another headset, same headset model and same problem.

Did a restart, no effect

Tested the headset mic with one of the applications shown on that list that uses the headset, and it worked

It just doesn't seem to work when I use it to call people...

I have the same problem - the headphones work, but the mic randomly stops working.

One thing that worked for me was to turn on music while making a call and by pressing the "Play/Stop" option on the phone (ie on the touchscreen) even though I'm on the phone, this can then allow the microphone to work believe it or not ! The 'hard' play/stop button on the headset cord can also help by pressing for a long period a few times and then unplugging and plugging back in.

Lately though even though the mic is working - it can randomly stop working mid-call so I'm getting fed up !

I updated my Samsung S2 2 months back. From that time my headset is not working properly.
Mic is not working when I use it for making calls.
and I'm able to listen music properly when I hold play/pause button.

I tested my headset on laptop, Nokia phone, MP3 player. It works fine without holding play/pause button.

Please tell me if anyone found solution to this problem except factory reset.
