Help After auto update to 2.3.4, gmail doesn't sync automatically

Hi all,

Before the auto update to 2.3.4 I already had the clock issue w/ 2.3.3 and thought the update would fix that. Yet, after the update now my gmail doesn't seem to sync automatically or push, though it's set to do so. I have to manually sync when I want to check email and do not receive any notifications.

In fact, Calendar, Tasks, and other Google features are also not syncing automatically. Astrid no longer seems able to connect to GTasks ("Connection error! Check your internet connection."). I've tested on wifi and 3G and the result is the same either way.

Do I have to reset? If so, it would be my first time doing that - any tips? Can I use App2SD to backup my apps then simply reload them after the reset? Any other backup I should do? Backup assistant from VZW is working fine, so my contacts and everything should be ok.

Thanks.

Try clearing cache on the Google apps. Menu> Settings> Applications> Manage Applications then look through the list.

I've noticed this too with one exception - it SOMETIMES automatically syncs email, at other times it won't.

I noticed a day after updating to 2.3.4 my gmail app disappeared, so I did a factory reset, and have not had a single problem after that. Everything is running super smooth, I can honestly say I have not even seen an app so much as force close & it has been a week now, really happy with it! :)
You can use es file explorer to backup all your apps to your sd card.

May try that over the weekend (ugh...) but does your Gmail ALWAYS give you instant notification of an email? Have you ever logged in on your Gmail only to notice that you've had emails for hours that never came through on your phone?

I never access my gmail on a PC, because I don't have one or access to one but, I believe what you say to be true.

You can backup your apps on Appbrain, which should make reinstalling a lot easier. Regarding Gmail, the app has been updated a number of times. Have you checked the Market to confirm you have the latest version? I find my Gmail messages come through pretty consistently.

Hmm ok things seem to be better now after a restart, but I still notice some delays vs. instantaneous alerts before the OTA.

I still have problems with Astrid connecting to Google, though. Can't be sure on which side that problem is.

Is factory reset the only way to fix the problem with gmail? Sounds drastic and not very user friendly. Thanks for advice
