Help After offical Kies 2.3.5 update, my Wifi Hotspot settings no longer save

Hello all,

I'm on three uk and updated to 2.3.5 via Kies yesterday. All fine, a definite improvement to 2.3.4.

But there is a problem, when i go to portable hotspot settings the Network SSID has been reset as 'AndroidAP' and the password is something random.

I can change it, but it doesn't stick. Sometimes it will persist for that 'session' but after i close and exit the hotspot configuration it will get reset back to AndroidAP.

I've noticed a few other people have this problem, it seems to be caused by the permissions getting messed up on the /data/misc/wifi/softap.conf file (as seen [Q] SGS2 can't change settings for wifi hotspot - xda-developers).

what i want to know, is there *any* way i can reset the permissions on this file or fix this problem without performing a factory reset or by rooting my phone? the feature still works, but it's really, really, annoying as i use it quite a lot.

is there any way i access this file via the sdk or in debug mode without rooting my phone?

Yes, I have the same problem.... I think it is a bug... And the WiFi Hotspot kept crashing too... I have to go back to older firmware.

glad it's not just me, it's very annoying :-(

i don't want to go back to 2.3.4 because 2.3.5 made my phone noticeably quicker - especially during browsing complicated web pages.

anybody have a solution ?

Same here. I'm on Telenor in Sweden, and did the 2.3.5 update OTA a few days ago. The default "AndroidAP" works fine, but changes are never saved.

I have sent a message to Samsung via the support pages, but no reply yet.

One thing that worries me a little is if the default password is the same for all phones, or if that's randomized somwehow? Mine starts with "0fa2c"... any similarity? :-S

Same Problem. After updating to 2.3.5 with Samsung Kies, the Wifi Hotspot settings can not be saved.

Is there a solution for this bug without rooting the phone? Samsung does not answer and seems to ignore that problem.

This is really annoying.

I've tried talking to NZ support but they won't help me because apparently my phone is parallel imported...

I've informed Samsung via the Dutch support site. Wrote the email in English to be sure it gets forwarded. Not much hope, but one's gotta try.
