Got a new Nexus 4 8G from Google today, tried to unlock it with the "fastboot oem unlock" command, got the same"FAILED <command write failed <Unknown error>>" message.

Check out my previous post here

Changed to different PC.. got the same results. I just feel so doomed about this :(

UPDATE: Problems solved. Just installed XP on my computer and successfully rooted the phone, then restored the Win7 back up. Weired thing is, I met the same problem on my roommate's computer, it's also Win7-64 bit installed by my win7 DVD. Guess there's a hiccup with my particular DVD.

I "cheated" and used the WUGS toolkit which worked perfectly so I can't help with direct experience of your problem, but I can't help thinking perhaps you have some driver mismatch somewhere. The toolkit not only offers alternative driver installs but provides a simple full check of the drivers before using them to do any real work.

If you haven't tried it, I suggest you download it and give it a spin - if only to checkout the functionality of your existing drivers.

I agree it can't hurt to check. I've had good experiences with this particular toolkit: Nexus Root Toolkit v1.6.3WugFresh | WugFresh

Install that and then follow the driver installation instructions in the toolkit.
