agats vs El26

I noticed some tutorials recommend useing el26, so I was curious, what's the difference in el26 and agats?
I am going to re-root my phone again and was curious as to what kernal to use. I know agats works, but wondered how el26 would work as well, and why tutorials recommend useing el26 instead of agats.

Tutorials recommend using el26 because there was some sort of emmc bug that could brick phones flashing in recovery. Now most recoveries, including AGATs, are "safe" meaning that they won't brick your device. People still recommend going back to el26 via odin just because of habit I suppose.

If I understand your question correctly, if you are asking can you do the initial root with EL26 from stock, the answer is NO dont try unless your willing to replace your phone. MOST of the EL26 kernels we use, are just kernels to get us into a safe recovery to flash an ICS ROM. EL26 is a gingerbread kernel. If you have a SGS2 and are on BOOST MOBILE the phone shipped with ICECREAM SANDWICH OS. The initial root method for our phone uses AGAT kernel to get root. Its just a kernel with safe rec. its the only way for the BST SGS2 E4GT to get root right now. The only way we know right now! YOU cant use a rooted EL26 on a ICS rom,its gingerbred. Going from ICS to ICS can cause the emmc brick, so we all go from ICS to GINGERBREAD to get back to ICS. THe EL26 and EL29 repack with safe recovery is good once we have root. I know im being redundant, its early nda morn. Hope this helps

Okay, Some phone can suffer from what is called the EMMC brick bug when flashing from an ICS rom to another rom due to some chips that were used in some of the SGS2 phoes. Using the EL26 kernel for flashing is a work around for that. the EL26 is a gingerbread kernel. So what they have you doing it flashing that kernal then flashing to the rom and kernal you want to use. Not all of the phones suffer from this bug, but those that have the affected chip should only flash from that kernel or one that is listed CWM Safe.
