Ahh dialer lag

I would love to disable the contact list also. Basically I just want it to show recent call activity (which I can trim with call log trimmer), not all my contacts.

Awesome, 9 seconds to make a call. That's right, 9 seconds from the time I pressed the call button to when the phone vibrated to indicate the call connected. So much for technology making things faster.

Geez, yours really does hate you. Glad I don't have these kinds of problems.

Keep your mobile network and WiFi turned off and you will not experience dialer lag. Only turn them on when you need them. You will still receive calls and texts.

I think its mostly the mobile network. But there is a difference. I would call this a bug.

If you use dialer one you have a choice of what appears behind the dialer. If you have root you can make it the default dialer

Only 9?! Lucky.

It only really happens when I have a bad signal, like at my house unfortunately. I was on the interstate driving with a great signal and it took half a second for my calls to connect. Oh yeah, the other day sitting in my driveway it took 15 seconds for a call to connect, yup that's right, 15 seconds, I timed it.

It's not a bug (well maybe not), it's crappy ass software design. The fact that the phone freaks out or takes forever when it doesn't have absolutely ideal conditions is the sign of bad software. You can't tell me that a device operating at over 500 million operations per second (or something like that, I haven't looked up the specifics) can't make a freaking phone call in less than a fraction of a second. If it can't, something is freaking broken.

There is a natural amount of lag which for me is about a second so it can start a connection to the towers. The phone can be hesitant due to the fact its trying to get a stable signal. This happened a lot on my GSM phones when I didn't have a very good signal. But taking more than 10 seconds is beyond weird especially if it isn't doing anything.

And what is your signal quality at your house? Mine normally hovers between 0-2 bars, and is usually around -90 dBm and has no problems making calls.

how do you check the dBm?

So if I am at -87, no complaints? Because this thing sits on 1X for minutes on end, then low 3G, and then back to 1X. I've only had the replacement for a day...but geez.

Also, dialer lag, anyone notice it's almost impossible to hang up a call and then immediately call another person?

You probably have a weak 3G signal where you are if you keep bouncing between 1X and 3G. Verizon uses separate signals for 1X data/voice, and 3G data. And as a rule of thumb, your 1X signal is always stronger than your 3G one.

Hmm. What if I say according to Verizon I should have great signal there, and my first Eris got signal there without issue?

I personally would never trust a provider on how good a signal should be in an area. How good of a signal you can get depending on YOUR normal usage and YOUR specific phone is what should matter.

But bouncing between 1X and 3G constantly leads me to a signal issue. So it might be something wrong with the radio in that specific phone, especially if your old Eris never did.

You could try dialing *228 and then select option 2 to update the network settings for your area.

i just got my phonr replaced for this reason, number 3 on the way, hopefully i dont loose root
