Ahhh I can't decide!!

I've been on just about every android forum read every review and i still cannot decide between the rezound and the nexus. I'm coming from an eris so either one will be a huge upgrade for me but the signal/screen issues are scaring me on the nexus (especially since i live in the middle of south dakota and sometimes reception is an issue). Are there people out there that haven't had any problems with their nexus devices?

Only issue I have at all is slight blue artifacts in very dark, poorly encoded movies. But even that's not a big deal, I watched all 3 matrix movies in HD on a plane and they were perfect. I don't have any important complaints with this phone. Signal strength is fine for me.

Are you a Costco member? I'm not trying to tell people to take advantage of their exchange policy, but basically if you purchase at Costco you have 90 days to swap the device itself for another or another phone entirely and I'm pretty sure on the receipt it even says "for any reason".

Hell, if you're NOT a costco member but live near one, it would probably be worth the $50 yearly membership fee to be able test drive both phones and see which you prefer. It'd be up to you which you try first, but my suggestion (if you can go the Costco route) would be to:

1. Buy the Nexus first. See if the signal is a problem for your location/usage or if the screen is unsatisfactory to you.

2. If you have issues with signal and/or screen, try the Rezound. If you like it and don't miss the Nexus, keep it. Otherwise:

3. Go back and swap the Rezound back for a Nexus.

If you're going to buy through VZW, then you basically have to decide which one you want to try first with the understanding you will most likely get stuck with the 2nd one. The workaround for VZW is to:

1. Buy Nexus or Rezound. Try it out for a while and see if you like it. If not, return it. Don't swap it, return it and go back to your old phone. Call 611 a few days later and ask them to check on your renewal pricing getting reset. Once it has reset, go back to VZW and get the other phone. If you find that one isn't for you, you are then able to do your one swap for the 1st phone you tried.

Costco is more flexible and even with the $50 membership fee it'd be cheaper and less hassle to try both phones:

- Costco: $50 membership fee. Total to go phoneA->phoneB->phoneA: $50.
- VZW: $35 restock fee for phoneA return. $35 restock fee for phoneB swap back to phoneA. Total to go phoneA->phoneB->phoneA: $70

Just some thoughts...

Unfortunately no Costco's in my state :(. Also the other problem is that my verizon store is still selling the rezound for $299, which is extremely frustrating. I will probably end up getting the nexus and drive around the countryside to see how my signal holds up. I've still got 2 weeks to agonize over my decision before my upgrade is due so we'll see how many times i change my mind.

I had the OG Droid and the DroidX. My biggest concern was signal issues because of these forums. This phone has been just as realiable as my X and even better when at work. I get a very poor signal at work on both phones but the X would go into roaming everyday of the week. I like to listen to talk radio on IheartRadio every morning. The X would drop out every now and then but the Nexus has never lost a signal. I have yet to see the roaming icon. I've had it for three weeks now.

I also haven't seen any screen issues. The screen is beautiful.

Honestly. We use the Rezound, iPhone 4S and Nexus in our business. (I have the sole Nexus...we have 3 Rezound users and 10+ iPhone users)...anyway, I would probably recommend the Rezound if NFC isn't important to you and skinless OS is not important. I like the Nexus, but I can't say I LOVE it. The Rezound is a very lovable phone.

With all that said, it's such a personal choice. I agree with the above post that says to test drive them both. Also, the Rezound here in PA is $199...you should be able to talk to a manager and get them to price match it.

When I was deciding, ICS pretty much had me sold but when I held them both in my hand, that solidified my decision on the Nexus. Hold them both and go with what feels right. Either one is a good choice.

Zero signal issues on mine; only issue I have is that my battery life isn't where I want it to be, but honestly even that's not so bad, and I've ordered the extended battery.

I prefer the feel of the Nexus too. Just a better fit in my hand. Also can't really stand Sense or any OEM skin for that matter. My reception on my Nexus is fine. I do believe the Rezound has a better ability to hold onto 4G when the signal is weak, but after 5 weeks with the Rezound and over a month with the Nexus, that is about the only advantage it had over the Rezound for me. I compared my Nexus in 3G with every other phone on display in my Verizon store (twice actually) and my reception was on par with the other phones. Same goes for data speeds on 4G.

The camera quality of the Rezound is better in my opinion, but that doesn't matter much to me. The SGN camera is average, and that's good enough for me.

My advice is prioritize what you most care about, recognizing that no phone is perfect, and then choose the one that satisfies what is most important to you.

Anywhere you buy will also offer a return policy, so you can always try one out for a while and return it if it's just not for you.

I cared most about size and feel, vanilla android, and developer friendly device because that ended up being what got me through my 2 years with my Droid when I was ready to get rid of it after just 1 year. Being able to easily root, remove stuff to free up space, and flash alternate ROMs for better performance is what kept that phone in my hands for 23 months. That's why that was a priority to me, and the rest became, as long as the other features on the phone are on par with other devices (including reception) then I was good. My Nexus definitely has reception on par with the Razr, X2, Thunderbolt, etc. The Rezound radios are just, in my opinion, the best, at least when it comes to data.

Stock ICS vs GingerSense. The Rezound is not even worth considering.

I think the ideal situation would allow you to mess around with a friend's gnex or Rezound if you know anyone who owns them. If not, spend some quality time playing with them in the Verizon store. Because honestly, it is going to be your personal experience that will ultimately allow you to decide. We in the forums could give you countless reasons to go with one or the other....but in the end you need to experience them and make the decision that is best for you. I have owned both and I went back and forth to the point where I thought I needed counseling ;). In the end I chose the Nexus for various reasons but there were times I was convinced the Rezound was for me. Good luck in your decision and know that either path you choose, you will be left with an Excellent phone!!

One bit of advice, if you choose the Nexus and have issues with the signal, don't settle. After 3 GNexus phones I was ready to write it off forever. The 4th and current Nexus is the closest I have come to a perfect phone.

Using both devices, HTC reception >>>>>>>>>> Samsung.

I actually haven't had signal problems to speak of in my office or house. I get an occasional drop to 3G, but it's very rare. Speed tests are the same and sometimes better on the Nexus than they were on the Rezound, believe it or not. The biggest issue for me is the Nexus' signal sometimes drops to 3G in certain structures. But not all - for example, I had a solid 2 bars of 4G in the supermarket tonight where I also got 4G with the Rezound. The only place I've found in my home area where the Rezound held 4G and the Nexus sometimes looses it is at my neighbor's house on the other side of my neighborhood.

This is all relative. If you live in an area where reception is good, you will never notice the difference, if there even is one. I've had my Galaxy Nexus for over one month, I've traveled several times to remote towns, and no matter where I've been, I've never experienced a single dropped call or data connection (unless no phone, Motos/HTCs included had no service as well).

I am reading about some real issues with the nexus and reception right here in this forum. I can confirm this by my own experience with the device. It has a relatively weak radio.

I've had no such issues with reception.

Clearly the OP should try the Nexus first and see if there are any reception issues.

I can't speak to which phone is better for you. I have the nexus and am happy with it. See below for my experience with the signal.

I live in a 3G only area and the only reception problem I had was a delay (30-90 seconds) switching off between 3G/WIFI. I updated the baseband and it is now almost instantaneous. For example, listening to TuneIn radio, the audio drops and picks back up within 5 seconds. That means that it would have to pick up the new signal, buffer it, and resume playback. If I drive by my house, it will actually cycle twice 3g --> WIFI as I approach, WIFI --> 3G as I continue on. And that is at ~40MPH. These are the base-bands that should be in the 4.03 roll out.

I have had no problems with the screen and the battery life seems par for the course.

I had both the OG Droid and the X. Love the GN. None of the big issues talked about here. I obviously don't get quite the battery life of the past phones because the screen is so much bigger on GN, but I make it through a day of work and usually stick in back on the charger for the 1st half hour I'm home and I'm good for the rest of the night. It's a great phone - do it!

I'm just going to add that, just like with any electronics product, if you hang out on a forum you will always see complaints, generally amplified complaints, because people don't come online and post in a forum to say, "I love my phone!" they come online either to ask "What phone should i buy?" or to yell "I hate my phone because it ...!"

There is a faction of folks that have terrible data reception or no data at all, and rather than try, gee, i don't know, swapping out the phone, they just invade every thread and say the radio is crap. It seems that most of the rational minded folks here acknowledge the radio on the Nexus is about as good as the other 4G phones, but the Rezound is in a league of it's own as evidenced by it's ability to keep a weak 4G signal when other phones like the Nexus will drop to 3G.

On something like a signal issue, it really is a user dependent and area dependent thing. I, like many others, have no "signal problem" with my Nexus. I do have "bar hypnosis" though, like many other people, and have had to shake that. This phone reports it's signal dependent on which network it is connected to, unlike every other phone with the except of an LG phone, I think it's the Revolution. I'll look at my Nexus signal and think it's not as good as my old Droid or my the Rezound because I see less bars, then I get paranoid and start comparing to my husband's Thunderbolt, my friend's Rezound, and any other Verizon phone I can get my hands on. THe funny thing is, never once have I seen any appreciable difference between my Nexus and the others for signal level (on 3G) or data speeds (on 3G or 4G), not even when I compared it to every 4G phone in my VZW store--on two separate occasions because I'm a paranoid lunatic. When I see my phone in 3G, I compare to my husband's Thunderbolt or my friend's Rezound or any other Verizon 4G phone in my vicinity and they are usually all in 3G, although sometimes the Rezound is holding on to 4G just barely (as evidenced by the 2-3 Mbps data speeds).

I've decided to stop being a paranoid lunatic and enjoy my phone.

You should do the same. Choose the one you think you want, and then...use it. If it doesn't work for you, then take it back. It's really that simple.

I am reading about some real issues with the nexus and reception right here in this forum. I can confirm this by my own experience with the device. It has a relatively weak radio.

This is anecdotal evidence, and it's weak at best. People come onto a forum to say, "My reception is weak." They don't, however, start threads to say, "Got my Galaxy Nexus, great reception!" The large majority of users don't experience these issues. Every time there's a thread complaining of weak signal, two people say they have weak signal, twenty chime in to say they don't.

If every phone was plagued with the issues people complain about on forums, all phones out there, the iPhone 4S included, would be essentially worthless.

Your experience does not equal everyone's experience.
