Help Airdroid between phones

Does Airdroid have to be on both phones for transfer between them? What happens if there is no WiFi connection?

As far as I know Airdroid works only with a phone and a PC, not directly phone to phone. It uses your wifi network and won't work without it.

Maybe you should look at Zender or other ftp file transfer app.
 
Actually you can do it, but it's a little bit of a workaround. Turn on the WiFi hotspot of the phone that's running Airdroid, and then tether the other phone to it, just like a PC. Airdroid then shows an IP address, 192.168.*.*:8888 or something, and connect the other phone's browser to it. Airdoid is not using cellular data, as it's all going over WiFi to the other phone. I have done this with an Oppo R7 Plus to a Samsung S4.

The same WiFi hotspot trick also works with the phone's own stock FTP app as well, as that can't make WiFi on its own with an Oppo

Have merged the two related threads..

There are other apps as well as Zender that can transfer directly from phone to phone. Search playstore for "data transfer phone to phone"
 
Well, I finally took the plunge and installed Sender on both phones ZTE Z813 and Z987. It looked as if it would work, but when I got them both on and apparently connected to the hotspot that I guess Xender itself created, the Z813 kept searching for the Z987, seemingly not finding it, and then asking again if the Z813 was old (yes) or new. It did this repeatedly
 
Actually, they both have Bluetooth but that hasn't been much help. I have tried many things which have not worked. Apparently neither one has NFC. Why does it have to be this hard to transfer things?
 
Did you try what I suggested? Airdroid and tethering them using the phone's WiFi hotspot feature? The other device only needs a browser to connect.
 
What are you trying to transfer and why hasnt bluetooth been a help? I get that it may be slow, but other than that?

This isn't meant to be snarky in any way but depending on your skill level it can range from being a trivial task or a major project. If you're not comfortable with techie things you're just aggravating yourself by trying to do certain things. Take your phones to a more smartphone-savvy friend and have them show you hands-on how to transfer files back and forth, that would be a lot easier than trying to muddle through the process on your own. Local libraries often have classes and seminars on topics like smartphone basics. If you bought your phones at a local store, go the help desk and ask someone to show you what to do. For your own peace of mind don't frustrate yourself fighting with your phones, sometimes it's much more practical to be shown what needs to be done than reading about it.
 
Thanks, I appreciate the help. I don't really know anybody who's techie except you guys, and if Cricket had a help desk, that must have been years ago. The library thing might work, though.
