Airline Pilot Logbook

I just looked for this on the market... Is there somewhere I can get / buy a copy?

It is not up on the Market yet - still in testing phase :) It will be available for purchase when finished, though a price has not been determined yet.

v0.1 testing is closed now, but v0.2 testing will begin very soon (in the next 2-4 days).

Thanks, the summary screen has changed a bit since I posted the screenshot. Anyway, v0.2 is progressing quite well, and it should be out real soon :)

Do you need just a single field for capturing the instructor time? Do other people need to capture day and night instructor times?
A single field is ok. Another one that would be helpful is simulator time.

v0.3 is expected to have support for custom fields, so you can define a custom time field called "Instructor Time" to capture that.
That would be just fine, at least for me.

Thanks Peter

Times flies. It has been 3 weeks since v0.1 was released, and we worked very hard to bring you v0.2. We have implemented all planned features plus some extra goodies. The app is now available from the Android Market, which makes it easier for everyone to download and keep up with the upgrade.

Also, a preliminary info page is at intelliPilot - Pilot LogBook. A forum will be set up shortly specifically to support this app.

Pilot LogBook (IntelliPilot v0.2) - Screenshots
Requires Android 1.6+

v0.2 new/enhanced features:
- New app icon
- Improved export
- Added rego database to record aircraft regos
- Added capture of crew details (incl contacts integration)
- Added summary of hours (day, week, month, year, custom)
- Added quick entries - long press on any time fields will auto-fill to duration, long press on any takeoff/landing fields will auto-fill to 1
- Added support for creating a return flight with details pre-populated (also allows to switch flying/non-flying role)
- Enhanced context menu (view/edit, add, delete, add return flight)
- Updated airport database

v0.3 features (planned):
- Add support for IATA codes
- Handle both local and UTC times
- Support hh:mm and hh.x format

v0.x features (being considered):
- Support user-defined custom fields
- Auto lock records to prevent accidental changes

Can't wait to get my Android phone soon, and this program would make the transition complete. I fly for an airline, and currently use Skymark Aloft Private. Some of the things I use 'at a glance', as you've asked, are out/in times, auto-calculating flight times based on the out/in times, logging approaches, exporting to CSV or XLS format for a backup, and generating reports (time flown in month, etc). The only thing missing (I think, I might have missed it in your release list) was a way to set alarms for pilot currencies. For example, I must complete one autoland every 60 days for my CAT III currency. Currently, in Aloft, I enter the date I did one, then tell it how long my currency lasts, and it will alert me when my autoland is about to expire. That sort of alert is the only feature I can think of that you haven't already mentioned. It could be used for a biennial flight review, instrument currency, medical date, etc.
As with all the others here, I'd like to say thanks for having a go at authoring this program. You'll be filling a market niche that I hope will pay off for you!
I'll line up to buy one as soon as I get my phone/you have one on the marketplace!

Cheers-
Ryan

Looks good however i am in GA and allot of the airports i am using are not in the list. And you cannot put any flight in that the to or from isnt identified. So can you make known places optional or at least import a current list of US airports from this source.

The database shipped with the app has most of the ICAO and IATA codes, but no FAA codes at all. Do you guys use all three? Or do you prefer the functionality to create/update your own airport records so that the app doesn't need to ship large airport database?

Lenchan,

Thanks for the update. I will download and continue testing.
I really like the airport database, so please keep it.

Regards,

Peter

Hi Peter,

Oh, we're definitely keeping the airport database, which has 5000+ entries at the moment. The issue is that there are a large number of airports not having ICAO or IATA codes, and hence they are not in the current database shipped. The app at the moment refuses to let you save the record if the airport codes are missing/invalid.

One option is to collect more and more airport codes and ship these with the app, but it is still likely that some airport codes will not be included. Therefore, an alternative option is to "open up" the airport databases (just like aircraft regos or types) so that you can search, create and update your own airport entries on top of the 5000+ shipped.

hi, this seems a very promising application, currently i am using flogger on iphone, one thing i really like with flogger is the ability to export to Google documents as soon as i finish my flight for later printing.
hope you will be able to implement this in your app.

Google integration (for backup and export) and Google Calendar sync are being considered for future releases (past v0.3). These are already listed on the product page.

BTW, does flogger create one file per flight, or you can select many?

hi. flogger does a full upload in one file. each time i sync.

Haven't read the whole thread yet, but I'm a private pilot and a programmer also and will gladly assist in developing the app ...

Just a Flag...
Here is an example of items that would be good to have available... This is from Logbook Pro. The first image is from the display options page. Notice how you can rename each field and you can select or deselect with fields you want to display. Also there are custom fields... Time, Yes/No, Count, and Text. Just to give you an idea of the fields everyone may want.

I also use APDL, The time format in it is HH:MM but then it sycs to Logbook pro and I have it set to display in HH.D. <<<I had a hard time with that, the forum wanted to display ":D"

Also, Whenever I log time it is all Cross-Country... So it should be able to automatically (or not) fill the Cross-Country. I log all time as day unless I enter some night time.

You may already have these features...I haven't been able to try it yet... I can't wait till June 4th!!! New phone coming - Upgrading from Palm Centro to EVO.
