Airplane mode overnight

Herotech

Newbie
When I go to bed at night, I set my phone to airplane mode (if I set an alarm), or just turn it off. It really stops the overnight battery drain.

I've been doin the same as well as charging overnight with the Computer instead of the wall charger & for me that seems to last longer throughout the day...

Charging the phone over night ruins the shelf life of the battery via overheating it. If the battery had a shelf life of 1.5 - 2 years, charging over night every night will bring that down to 0.5 - 1 year.

just about every modern electronic device detects when the phone is fully charged and stops charging to prevent overcharging.

Whoa!...hold up...I haven't seen a warning about overcharging batteries since the 80's bag phones! Is there any merit to this claim?

Sound off, please

The sales manager at the Sprint store where I picked up my Epic told me that he used to work as a tech. He said that in 90% of the cases where people brought in their phone with battery issues it was because they charged overnight.

howd he/they prove that ? did he elaborate ?

i happens man, ive gone through a couple phone batteries in the past because i left them charging overnight. ive had phone tech guys tell me it affects them. ive thrown away bloated battery cells that couldnt hold a charge, maybe on a year old phone. my friends phone is currently doing that

i really dont see how this applies considering the phone stops charging once it reaches 100%...

or it could be to let the battery cool down because it gets hot while its plugged in and could shorten its life

maybe yours does, my epic and evo do the same thing, they both stop charging at 100% and will not re-charge until re-plugged.

agreed.
my evo stops @ 100. or, sometimes, what it believes is 100%. lol.
i charge it all night, for convience, then i buy a new battery in a year... ohhh expensive...

Yeah, I didn't think this was a problem anymore, but I'll admit, I was a little concerned when I first saw the message on my Epic to unplug since the battery was charged 100%...

Not true, Herotech.

That has not been an issue since Ni-Cad, and even most of the later of those have full charge detection built into their parent device or desktop charger.

Battery over heating can happen in three ways now: a defective battery or charger, or leaving the battery exposed to direct sunlight or other heat source.

100% false with LiIon and the technique used by the phone
