Help alarm problems

ive upgraded to 2.1,but when i set the alarm for 0330 (i work early!) and checked it was on the home screen it looked fine.unfortunatly it didnt go off and i was late for work!
i had the phone charging at the time.any ideas or solutions?
also,the alarm doesnt work if you set it up then turn phone off.is this right?
on all my old phones you could turn it off and the alarm would still ring..

Hi, I have x10 Mini and I've tried set the alarm and turned off the phone but no luck getting it to wake up on alarm. So I don't think it can.

I've no idea about the other thing, I remember one time I set the alarm on and it was charging over night but haven't had that problem again. Just this one time.

I've read this is the same for all Android phones. Something to do with how the OS runs or something like that .....
