Help alert tone for messages

i have forgotten how to change the sound / tone when i get a message

I am not using any of the stock apps, but you should be able to go (as I do in Go! SMS) in to your sms app and hit "menu=>settings=>notifications settings" from there I actually hhave the option to change the SMS notification sounds...

Or if using the stock app, from the home screen press menu>personalise, scroll to the bottom where it says notification sound, then change the sound for "message"
