On my moto edge 2022, it sometimes lags a lot,I have to tap it five times to click over from home screen to app.. Any sugesstions, that I can work around without factory resetting it again?

Nope, my all apps square tends to stick and it will not time out, like most of the time it is about 10 seconds to respond to my fingerprint..

It was ultimately the launcher's fault of Smart Launcher, ah my fanboy launcher has betray me, so going back to the fanbase, Nova.
have you ever tried KISS launcher from F-Droid?
it is a bit strange at first but i found it intuitive enough after about 12 hours, and now have been using it for years

even my ollady uses it, and she didnt want to try it

I did try it but.. I would like to see if I can rename everything and customize the apps and move them around.

you can rename them, add tags, etc.
long press an icon while on the app menu scroll

moving them around is a bit different, because you have to use KISS for a few days and select how you want the memory to work

then use the history option to show you the apps you use most frequent (or however you have your history set up)

as far as i know there is no way to actually set things exactly where you want them.
you can select multie apps to be on the home screen, and move them around, but only one row

perhaps this is an option that the devs of KISS should hear about on GitHub

I have been playing with this for a few hours now, really amazing launcher for those who want only one screen to focus on.
