Help All Mail stopped working

I'm running into a problem where both the Yahoo & GMail apps are not updating... any suggestions before I drop kick this phone? They won't update even when I do a manual refresh from within the application or from Settings Accounts / Sync.

On a side note... I'm seriously considering rooting the phone as the battery is still good (lasts over a day unless I use the navigation / heavy internet usage) and I don't want to spend the $ to get a new phone right now. I would hope that rooting will remove all the junk on there that Verizon has loaded and free up space / processor cycles and potentially solve this issue.

Well, there is always the nuclear option:

From home, settings->applications->manage applications. Wait for the list to refresh. Find the app (I think that Gmail is actually called Gmail Storage, but it may be just Gmail), tap it, click the button "clear data", and wait for the Gmail app to re-sync.

I'm not really sure about the Yahoo app, but I'll be it's similar?

This is a decision that you have to make, but rooting is quite simple to accomplish, really makes the phone work better, and can be unrooted quite easily (though it will be the equivalent of a factory reset, so you have to start over from scratch). If you use the custom ROM xtrSENSE5.0.1, it will even allow you to install over the data that you have now on stock, keeping all of your apps, data, etc. (though perhaps you will want to start over from scratch - which can be very easily done.)

If you want to go ahead and try, there are plenty of us who monitor this forums who can get you through it in no time, and with little sweat. (You'll probably sweat a little, but you really don't need to.)

Best of luck.

I had already tried the Clear Data and that didn't work...

So yesterday shortly after posting this, I rooted the phone and am using the Condemned CM7 18.3 Vanilla... and can I say the process was STUPID simple enough for me to follow and only took about an hour once i had the ROM on the phone.

It is super fast and my mail works perfectly!

My AOL mail stopped updating. For the first 20 months or so, I never had any problems, lately it seems that I can go a few hours to a whole day without getting any AOL mail. (GMail works.)

Checked the settings, everything seems to be working fine. Any suggestions?

Thx.
