Help All my messages wiped

Same thing happened to me yesterday afternoon. Tried to send a message and couldn't. I then got a pop up message saying something like 'Forced Close'. I reset my phone (not factory settings). But still nothing. I've lost over 1000 messages and I need at least 300 of these as they are for work.

How can I stop this from happening again?
 
Lost all mine last weekend, annoying as that was over 500 messages, lucky not to have suffered from it before now I guess (was using Handcent as I was advised that'd avoid the wiping issue)

Gingerbread is surely going to fix this bug!
 
HTCSense works but says I have no messages. All gone. Sigh. Third time now. I will use SMSBackup when my texts rebuild again.
 
To stop your phone deleting all your messages you need to go to your message settings and uncheck the box which says 'Delete old messages' under the storage settings.
If this is checked the phone automatically deletes your messages when the storage limit is reached.
 
Mine all went today too.
I lost them all before when using the stock HTC message app. I have backed most of them up on smsbackup unfortunately it doesn't restore mms.

I'm using go sms app now, I don't know if that had anything to do with them disapering again or just.coincindence.
It's a pain.
