Help all sounds stop working???

Hi guys

Recently purchased the note 3 outright.

I've noted that on a number of occasions the phone sounds stop working (i.e. when you swipe, press buttons, etc), despite the phone being on loud.

I have to restart the phone in order for it all to start working back to normal.

Have any others experiences this problem?

I've had the handset replaced once as the guys at the store said its a hardware fault (go figure).

Having the issue again within hours of getting the new handset.

Any ideas if there is a fix to this??

When I go to the sounds menu, everything is greyed out, so cannot adjust anything from there either.

Some random thoughts that may possibly be of some use to you.

Is the sound menu greyed out immediately after a restart?

Do you have an app that silences the phone e.g. Shush!

Have you tried removing the battery for a few minutes before restarting? (Not directly relevant but it got my camera working again, after a warning notice, to the effect that it was no longer working)

+1 for it being an app-related problem. With it happening less than 24 hours of receiving a new handset and working for a bit after a reboot, this sounds like an app running amok. One user reported a similar problem, and it turned out to be a game they had installed.

Hey mate,

Well its not greyed out once I restart, but when the sounds stop working then it becomes greyed out.

And I have no apps that are silencing the phone.

Ahh, come to think of it, the only game have installed is real racing 3...wonder if this is the same game the other user may have installed...

So it's not a a issue with the actually phone then I guess?

That might be it, I can't remember (sounds familiar, though). But yeah, if it's the same app, then it's basically silencing the phone to prevent phone sounds from interrupting the game, and continues to run in the background, keeping the phone quiet.

Wow, never realized that this could be the underlying problem...been having arguments with the chaps at carphonewarehouse as I was requesting a refund and they would not honor it.

Good to know that I'm not the only one having this problem. It has happened to me at least 4 times. I have also installed real racing 3 wonder if that is the problem. Although I kept blaming it in touch wiz so I downloaded go launcher and all the goodies that comes with it ever since I installed go launcher the problem has stopped I'm actually gonna try to unis tal it and see if it happens again. Before going to the tmobile store for some advice/exchange.

Excellent, so looks like the issue is Real Racing 3...I've had my handset replaced twice because of this and I've only purchased the phone on the 23rd (LOL)...poor guys at CPW have no clue and are happy to keep replacing it...

Guess we should all monitor this and maybe if any others have the same issue, would be good to hear if it's because they have Real Racing 3 installed.

Did you uninstall the game for yourself to be certain Real Racing is the culprit?

Any time there is an issue you need to remove the source, let the phone run without that app for a few hours just to be certain it's *fixed*.

Then and only then can you say your phone is good now.

No I have not uninstalled it yet, but I've noted that since the restart I have no launched RR3 and since have not had that problem.

Guess I'll fire it up, then close app without actually exiting it, and see if I encounter the same problem.

Just an update for those that have experienced the same issue as described above.

I can confirm that the root cause of the problem is indeed Real Racing 3.

When you have launched this game, it causes the sounds in the background to be muted (all notifications and related sounds). Therefore merely exiting the game without actually exiting the application will cause the mute to continue.

If you close down the game you will notice that everything reverts back to normal.

Hope this helps out a few that once thought they had purchased a faulty handset (like me).

Ta!
